respray after scrape

OH had the misfortune to be scraped (in MY car:)) down a country lane by a tractor/trailer whilst she was stopped waiting for said tractor to pass. As my car is under 4 years old I feel the respray etc should be done to a proper spec rather than a backstreet sprayer. Would I be wrong to expect this as I'm expecting the tractor driver to object to the cost £600, as he wants to pay hinself, off insurance. the tractor had no wing mirror (drivers side) and the reg on the trailer (assume tractor same) is not on Askmid as insured. We have pics, drivers details and name of farm he works for, quote posted to him but phone not turned on so can't speak to him.
ps. Scrape is about 12" x 12" but down to metalwork. plus destroyed rear light £200.

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

If he objects to the quote then move on to a direct approach to his insurer.
(Is he prepared to pay all your costs, not just the repair bill? You may need a hire car whilst the job is done/taxi fares/loss of earnings etc)0 -
I have had decent cars scraped before and for me taking them to a main dealer as such would never enter my mind to have the repair done, I have a good friend that is a mechanic who sent me to a body shop and they did the work for a fraction of the dealer quote, It looked like new after I collected it and I have used them again and also sent others to them.
Ps:- Mine was not from my own driving it was idiots that thought it funny to key my car as they must have been green with envy.0 -

Sadly its a big problem with "sure i'll just pay it" scenarios. Its always way more than the person thinks because they have no grasp on prices, then they think they are being stiffed by you and they've always got a mate who will do it "on the cheap" for them whom you wouldnt let paint a wheelbarrow let alone a car0 -

Good for you! And did this back street repair shop do the work to manufacturer standards so that the paint warranty is intact? And what about parts used? Maybe the tail light should be stuck back together again or maybe the O/P should trawl around a few scrappies to find a second hand one?
OR alternatively the person who cause the accident should return the car to pre accident condition for the O/P?0 -

He seems to say this like i am going to care
Love his tag line - "" I refuse to censor myself because it may offend someone. If you don't like me that's ok, I don't need your approval. "
However sensors others when they might say things he doesnt want to hear.
Oh the irony0 -
I've had bodywork done by main dealers (company car so no option) and bodywork done by my local specialist bodyshop.
No comparison.
Local bodyshop: Completely invisible repair.
Main Dealer: Laughably poor work that had to be redone. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -

1) its a farm tractor so it'll have to be the farmer I expect.
2)No hire car needed due to wifes car being available
3) no loss earnings retired
4)As wife had the ding do I have to declare it or her.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
I would second the fact that a lot of independent bodyshops do far better work than those used by main dealers.
My MX5 had a hit from behind. Mazda dealer got insurance job. Bumper colour was mismatched on first attempt (they hoped I wouldn't notice) acceptable on second attempt but not perfect. When I picked up the car and checked over it they hadn't even plugged in the rear light clusters.
in comparison a company locally who works out of an old farm yard, been going for 20+ years, do private and insurance co repairs have done an excellent job on various cars they have fixed for me.0 -

Don't most main dealers outsource bodywork and paint repairs to local bodyshops anyway?0
