Well, there's always something isn't there....ate a biscuit and a lump of tooth fell off. It's a heavily filled molar at the back. Off to the dentist tomorrow- at least it will hopefully be sorted before the prices go up next week!

Not budgeted for dentists this month only prescription fees! Grrrr
  • Oh dear. Hope it's not too painful - either physically or financially.

    Dentist was £19.70 but needed.

Started to plan my pre-kitchen refurb (I'm changing a downstairs shower room into a small utility where I can house my washer and dryer) and the thought of the cost is making me nervous.

I had a quote off a guy at £140 a day and he'd supply the materials - I'm panicking now that it may spiral and it could end up costing me £500. He reckons it could be 2 days work. Tempted now to tell him I'm not ready.

My friends son is a plumber and next door a plasterer, I wonder if it may be cheaper to go down that route and get the work done in stages. I have until July/August to get it sorted.

Spending money is making me really nervous!
  • Morning Louby,

Might be worth at least getting an idea of costs as they might give you mates rates.

And although you're seeing it as a bad thing, good on you for taking the time to do the proper sums and give it the thought it deserves.

Thanks Speky, I just feel so worried about my debts mounting again. I know they've got to but I want the smallest debt I can.

My OH is offically moving in with me in May and my incoming money will increase as he's paying me rent. That will really help with my budgeting. Lots of little bits come to an end (fixed savings, parents loan, money I owe my son) over May-July which should see me with an extra £900 a month spare. I then have to start paying for my kitchen in August but that's manageable.

    I can do this!

Parents loan is now £885 - that is a great feeling!

Looked around the house for bits to sell (again) realised I have 2 portable DVD players that my boys used on flights. I put them on my local Facebook selling page for £10 each and could kick myself as I had about 10 messages in 10 minutes with people wanting them. So wish I'd put them on for more. I delivered them this morning for a bit of petrol money.

I then sold a shoe storage unit I've had for about 12 years. It's a bit knocked in places but still quite good. I got £30 for that and also got a £20 Topcash back payout - £70 that's gone into my kitchen fund.

Pleased with myself. I've still got £145 to clear in Topcashback.

My friends son is coming over tomorrow to look at my plumbing jobs. Hoping he can give me a good price.

Managed to haggle a bit with my builder whose fitting my kitchen and he's knocked £350 off the bill. If you don't ask.....!

I'm slowly but surely building the confidence to just ask the question "is that the best you can do".

I'm a salesman myself and when I first started I was amazed at how when asked, we would give a discount just to get them over the line.

As you say, if you don't ask, you don't get. Go you!

One more day at work. I'm so ready for a break, 2 weeks off will be heaven. Me and OH are going away for a night, walking, staying in a B & B, meal out and may visit Chatsworth house too.

My friends plumber friend is going to do my plumbing jobs, reasonable rates too. Things are starting to happen in my house - exciting times!
