So we were burgled early yesterday. All my cinema dettol receipts not processed cc, car keys house keys and purse. What a naff day. Not worth going through insurance to claim for locksmith etc as we will be hammered later this year with insurance hike. Sorry for rant

That seems a very targeted burglary....
make sure you cancel any credit cards or bank cards that might have been in your purse...it might also be an idea to change passwords and pin numbers in case they are able to get any information from the paperwork that was stolen.

goes without saying I assume you've had something done with your car locks too...I've heard of some cars that go missing several weeks after the keys to them....

not a nice experience being burgled.

I suppose it depends on how long the burglar has to wander about your house but I imagine a lot of people keep keys in an obvious place for the family to find eg in a bowl by the door

We had a burglar years ago who smashed a small window pane in the back door and hooked keys off the work surface and then let himself in, fortunately I woke up and went downstairs as we didn't have an en suite at the time - I chased him down the street in my pjs - he got the shock of his life, a wild angry woman racing down the street after him :D - sadly didn't catch him, I was so pumped with adrenaline I dread to think what would have happened.

burglar took nothing only fags - OH still smoked at the time so it was decades ago - but the memory marks you for life. We had nothing of value ever to take - it was the olden days before mobiles, flat screen, computers, TVs, laptops and tablets etc

keys are no longer obvious now. valuables go to bed with us and even then they are well hidden. I keep the doors locked esp when I am in on my own and the back door is at least bolted if we are in the living room and I never leave phones or valuables lying around in the house - esp in the summer with all windows open
you loose your trust and you never feel safe ever again, not at home or anywhere out

Sorry that this has happened to you :(

Everyone should take notice though, this time of year I think we are probably more susceptible to being burgled. Chances are we'll have our windows open more often than not and it doesn't take much to catch the eye of a thief . My morning walk the other day, about 5.30 am I saw a couple leave their house and drive off with the front window left wide open  good job I wasn't an opportunist burglar because chances are the house was an empty and highly unlikely that I would have been seen that time of day.
Something unexpected happened which made me smile and still continues to make me smile.

Yes all cards cancelled. Car is an old banger but i will get a steering wheel lock for it. Its a quiet low crime area. My daughters were having a sleepover with friends. Just glad they were not harmed.
