Me too but I only claimed mine on 1st May so it will probably be next Tuesday. I seem to remember something similar happening at the beginning of April, they are probably inundated :rotfl:0 -
I didn't feel like working full-time in my 20, 30, 40s either!
but needs must
Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it we're all living longer and someone has to pay for pensions, NHS and social care and the burden falls on those in work.
Pensions were brought in when life expectancy was under 60 it's now nearer mid 80's and rising,
the state pension age needs to rise further but successive govt have ducked out of it...
There are parts of Scotland where the life expectancy is early 70s for men and mid 70s for women
When state pensions first came in this was the norm - got your pension at 60 or 65 - dead within 5 years.
The issue is for women born in the 1950s who expected to retire at 60 but who got little or no notice of the changes and who have had their state pension age increased twice, up to 67 for some.
Some of these were doing Saturday jobs in their teens and then left school at 15, no chance of any further education, very much shorter maternity leave, expecting to retire at 60 but now cant.
Also husband who might have retired early in their 60s to coincide with their partners - they are now choosing to work on as well until their partners finally retire.
So more and more people working between 60 and 70 and beyond
What are the figures for under 25s who are not in paid employment, training or education?“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -

Women live on average longer than men, therefore men should be able to retire at a younger age than women......Discuss
Actually, I was thinking earlier that we can blame the men for being a bit slow in the moves towards equality. All along, the inequality bandwagon has focused on women being equal to men, ie that the mens' existing situation should become the new baseline for everyone.
I think when it came to pensions, men should have been much more assertive and demanded their pension age reducing to 60.
But seriously I don't think it's really ever been about equality, the pensions decision-making has been based on hard economics and equality is just the fairytale used to excuse it.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
