More info on the stamps, apparently, they were the birth of Argos, never knew that................But it suffered when Tesco ceased to use it, as part of a price-cutting policy that became standard nationwide. To retain business, Green Shield allowed customers to buy gifts from the catalogue with a mix of stamps and cash, but soon the catalogue became cash-only, and the operation was re-branded as Argos. Stamps were withdrawn altogether in 1991.

I remember now the last place to accept them was an Argos over in B'mth, before they opened one in Poole I'm sure. End of an era as Poole one is shutting this week to move into Sainsbobs. :(

I think my mum gave me her last stamps to get something when I bought my first flat in 1983.

Can you imagine an 18 year old buying their first place these days. :o

I haven't shared the news yet but DD1 and her BF have finally had an offer accepted, keeping everything crossed for them, hope I haven't jinxed it now...

    oh, thats great news :)
People say about house prices, but I think it is all relative. Yes, they are more expensive now, but back hen, interest was probably 14-20%, so a load higher. I seems to be all swings and roundabouts. On a low note, I bought my house just before the big crash, .....the swines!!

I bought my 3rd property with Mr TS (his first) just before then. We lost loads of money. :(

I do think it's harder for youngsters nowadays as not many seem to have full time contracts with work to get on the ladder...

Yes, zero hour contracts are, what I see as being the main issue, they are the work of the devil, and only introduced to make the rich, richer, they should be banned!

And lots of companies only offer part time contracts too, less responsibility for them in the way of holidays etc. :(

The way I see it is the only way youngsters can afford to step on the ladder is if they are in full time employment.
