Surveyor and building company came at lunchtime and had a poke around. Apparently the kitchen ceiling will have to be tested for asbestos and they will have to see if there are market tiles under the kitchen or bathroom floor and if so they will need replacing. All rooms except the 2nd bedroom will have to be redecorated and the hall will have to have a new plasterboard ceiling. The main part of the kitchen units will have to be removed to allow the wall to dry out and will then have to be replaced with new ones. Also new plugs and light pendants where necessary.
Couple of issues apparently if I want the other light switches and pendants replaced ( so everything matches ) that may be an issue but it seems that the fuse box may need to be replaced as it's old and the surveyor said that would be down to me cost wise but the builder said if it's not up to current regs then the insurers will have to replace it
Then what happens to the units on the other side of the kitchen that won't match? The surveyor said the house should really be empty for the work and so I mentioned getting a storage unit but he said we can store it in the one bedroom that's not been damaged but beds and three piece etc won't fit?
Laundry company called today and will be in touch in next couple of days about collectind the clothes to be laundered. The surveyor was a bit of an idiot as I had to sign a form agreeing to the surveyor being appointed and to be paid by Axa and he tried to explain what the words meant and I said it's ok I worked for a civil engineering company for 7 years and understand contracts and health and safety etc.

Check your policy wording for "matching items". If you have extended accidental damage cover you will normally be covered to replace matching units if part of your kitchen is damaged. Some policies will pay 50% for undamaged units.“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.” ~ Ferris Bueller0 -
