Berry is just a big cuddly bear, though he doesn't do kisses - well you wouldn't expect a kiss from a bear I suppose would you
Juliana, their rescuer in Bucharest Romania, used to feed three 'gangs of strays' for about 2-3 years, as so many starving strays about. Berry was in her Market Place Gang, being the joint leader of the pack with Blue Eyes. Noela was in another of her gangs of strays
Four Paws chairy used to do free neutering days and she captured as many of her strays as she could and got them neutered then released them back to their home areas, having nowhere to keep them herself. At this time both Berry and Noela were neutered, though Noela already had at least one puppy by then
When the dog killing law came in September 2013, everything changed in Romania, as dog were rounded up in the most cruel
ways and placed in 'death camp' shelters. So Juliana caught as many of her strays as possible and started to find homes abroad for them to be adopted into. She got Berry off the street straight away, as well as Noela's puppy (who is now in Scotland) but could not capture Noela, who ended up being caught by the dog catchers and flung into Pallady 'shelter' but Juliana managed to pay to get her out of there - this was Christmas 2013, hence her name
Pupies and cute dogs tended to get adopted easily and these were transported mainly to UK through official legal channels. So the older dogs, and the problem dogs, got left behind in a 'pension' as they call a private yard/shelter organised by Juliana and a friend. Berry was lame from elbow displasia and just when he was due to come over to an animal shelter over here (NAWT) it was found that he had stage 3 heartworm which was very serious. It was at this time that I said to Juliana that I would love to take one of her dogs, but I couldn't as I couldn't walk them due to my arthritis. She said, oh but our Berry Bear doesn't need walks, just somewhere with access to a garden where he can see out his days in comfort. And so, she hooked me :rotfl: Berry underwent 3 months of expensive, intensive treatment which involved arsenic  and was eventually given the OK to travel in May 2014
He came to me and has been surrounded by love ever since. It was a year later that I said that I would take another elderly dog and Juliana suggested Noela who had been held back by her fear. I agreed to have her and she arrived 31st January 2015. She was absolutely terrified on the journey and had bitten the transporter more than once. I had to get a friend, whose new blind dog I had picked up on the same day, to help me carry Noela into the house in her crate so no chance of her getting away
Noela settled into our odd routine and I can honestly say that both of them have been totally clean in the house except for once when ill. Although she is over the moon to see me after I have been out or when I pick them up from where they board when I am away. She is still terrified of other people except me and Joy at kennels, but plays with other dogs there and loves being brushed now
She still has a long way to go but I have never rushed her, and never will
Now that was a long post
awww 3 Dogs what a story.
I have great admiration for you taking on both these lovely dogs.
They are now living in the lap of luxury with you.
I can tell how much you love them both from your posts, they are beautiful dogs and so very lucky to have you.
Does your friend have a charity page and maybe I could donate a little something? Its so wonderful that there are people willing to help animals like this, thank go there are.0 -

It was the white/brindle boy who passed away last year.
Still have his ashes in the bedroom, had planned to scatter them at his favourite holiday resort in the woods where he loved to roam but when it came to do it, I just couldn't part with him.
Still have the ashes form my lovely dog Tina who died 15 years ago, can't part with her either0
