Well done to your DS on the theory test pass Sarah....how are you feeling about him taking lessons...?
I remember pacing round for the whole 2 hours that DS was out on his first one convinced that it wouldn't go well only for him to come back and say he'd had a blast with the instructor!
it's one of those turning points in kids lives where suddenly you realise that they are finally spreading their wings....and all you can do is watch
I found the entire process gut wrenching with all of mine.
The eldest had a few lessons but really didnt fully learn to drive until after uni, mostly because of the cost but also where she lived it was all very walkable or busable. We did loan her the money to get her first car, insurance etc but the loan was stalled when they went to LA last year and never restarted. We also pay her car insurance still but its only a few hundred each year.
Eldest son just used to bike everywhere or get lifts when he was living at home so he waited until he went into the army. They paid for him to learn and he did the intensive driving courses. He has just done and passed his theory test for driving HGVs
Errant youngest son, always very independent and determined, he got a part time job at 16 in a hotel, paid for his own lessons and had enough to buy his own car as soon as he passed his test and also pay his own insurance etc
Its funny how they all went about it in a different way“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -

The prices are ridiculous as they live in the London commuter belt. They even have a decent 20% deposit which I know would probably buy half a property in some areas.
It's so hard for them really feel for your DD, we have DD3 at home and I can't see that changing ever at the moment. :rotfl:
I am on the rightmove mailing list for St Albans and they keep sending me daily notices about one bed flats, dreadful box shaped things for between 200 and 250, 000
Around here that would get you a 3 (or even a 4 bed) new build house on a new housing estate.
Eldest child and her BF want to be somewhere on the outskirts of York within drivable distance so I think it would be similar prices up there in the right place.
They are paying nearly £1000 a month in rent now so its not as if they cant afford to pay a monthly mortgage but their deposit money has taken a back seat to the wedding at the mo ....“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Also on COS Ive got 75p for bottles of SoV water from Sada which I got from Sada on Saturday for £1 - not bad for a final cost for 25p.
I had free ones on COS from either Sada or Mr !!!!!! but Ive never been able to find it in Mr !!!!!! so I got my free ones from sada for COs I think this must be a follow up offer.
On Q its only free in Mr Ts
Must go and have a look at Q clicksnap to see if anything new and exciting has appeared today“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
Actually you are very lucky to have me at all today.
We lost the internet last night and so OH did the usual diagnostic tests but nothing worked so he had to resort to ring sky
Oddly he got straight through, no long wait, nice man said he would do line tests and then ring back.
There was a long wait before he rang back to say there was a fault on the line so he would be contacting BT open reach.
Then the nice chap rung back 10 mins later to say it was an area fault  possibly fixed by Thursday
so we settled in for a long wait, plenty of stuff to do anyway that did not need the internet especially in the garden
About an hour later phones started pinging again and we had the internet back :T“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Now I am confused.
Just looked at my shopimum account and Ive got Jacobs Merlot listed for £3.50 cashback :j
This is my account but its not on OHs
Has anyone else got this? I am wondering because on the FB savvy page last week a couple of people got offers that never appeared for anyone else ...“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
With talk on cash SIPPs I have tried my best to understand how they work over on the pensions board as i think this would work well for DH.Who provides the SIPP? I can see HL but there was talk of using VM which I presumed was virgin money but I can't find the link.
It would seem HL want £1k left in the account which would be a bit awkward.
Hornetgirl if you could point me in the right direction I would be grateful."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0
