Hi 3Dogs,
Yes, we used to also enjoy walks in the other direction. Usually just to Cullercoats though, I used to love seeing the lifeboat at the slip station there.
I didn't have to walk far to Primary School, I went to Coquet Ave which runs parallel to Holly Avenue.
My late Dad was a coal miner at the Rising Sun Colliery
My llate dad's garage stood on the opposite corner to The Rising Sun pub, garage still there but they don't do repairs any longer

I watched the Hospital programme today about the amount of patients coming here from abroad with no means of paying for treatment or no inclination either. The chap who had to asses them was a nice chap but was a bit naive. He asked one chap if he was asking for refugee status and the chap said yes but did not have any papers. When the chap had gone he was interviewed and admitted he came in a lorry illegally. He then had treatment for kidney stones and disappeared again!!
And apparently when they are in a&e they are not charged but as soon as they are admitted they have to start charging them. So the answer is not to admit them. Sorry if that seems harsh. My opinion
I personally would bring in ID cards, then anything normally free for us Brits would require an ID card to be shown, if you always carry an ID card then you would always be able to prove you were entitled to the treatment.
If a non-british person turned up asking for "emergency" treatment I would expect them to have insurance or would demand advance payment for as much as the treatment could cost, and if it cost less they would get a refund. If they could not provide payment then they would be invited to go to a country where they could get treatment, ideally back to the country they just flew in from.
I know there are absolute emergencies, in which case the minimum treatment should be given, and the person then handed to the police until they provided payment.
I would certainly question anyone turning up with a suitcase. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Came across this Bonne Maman jam and mug (boxed) in local superstore earlier. Would make a nice gift for someone at £2. Mug looks quite good quality.
It wasn't in the aisle with the jams though, was on a stand at the end of the milk aisle.
