MSE Update, 1.40pm Wed 18 Jan - We've just received confirmation from Boots that its sale is boosting to up to 70% off in stores from Fri 20 Jan.
I'm taking Mum abroad for the weekend and if this is true, I might just be able to find something at the airport for a good hostess present – we are staying with relatives and hand baggage restrictions mean that it's a bit of a challenge to find something in advance. That is, of course, if the airport Boots has any sale stuff in stock.0 -

I hope RF and DD dont mind me discussing my forum over here (and they are welcome to pop over my way to share money saving tips to fellow pie lovers) but yes, I do get to taste lots of pies. Obviously no pastry on the top can not be a pie. A pie can have no pastry on the bottom, preferably if it has a puff pasty topper, obviously.
Soggy bottoms, now, where do I start...there is no reason for a soggy bottom. Look at your pastry mix, check your cooking vessel, and obviously, there is always blind baking (although I prefer blind tasting).
I only like pie without pastry on the bottom. My mum used to make lemon meringue pie that was only actually lemon meringue, otherwise I wouldn't eat it :rotfl:0 -
How lovely. One tip is that you may want to give your Mum a hint that she may want to spruce up for some random reason. My friend made a surprise birthday party for her elderly Mum, Mum walked in through the front door dressed in her muddy gardening kit to be greeted by 50 guests.
Or tell her that you are organising a very small gathering so that she doesn't think you are not bothering and also gets dressed up. Friends of mine did this, 'popping in to see someone' at the local social club where the party was happening. The surprise worked really well.0 -
