OK...so now we are back home...can I pose a question in a what would you do situation....

You get to the supermarket, park and go and get a trolly...the next available trolly has an item in that's been left presumably by the previous user.....do you take the trolly and if so what do you do with the contents....

I'd hand it in. I found food once in an Aldi trolley and gave it in.

I am eternally grateful to the customer who found my canvas shopper dangling on the trolley hook at A's and handed it in, because it contained my phone amongst other things.

Ditto the person who gave in my keys which I'd left dangling from the coin-slot - I'd used a keyring trolley coin and left them there.

but in fairness pyx is correct I should have maybe handed it in so I will make up for it by donating something else to the value to the foodbank box.
That seems like a very reasonable course of action. Food I would be wary of if it could have been tampered with though.

I think it probably depends on value, the chances of anybody going to ask at customer services about a lettuce are slim but anything worth a fiver etc more likely they will (and technically it's theft by finding, ok the chances of anything happening are miniscule but we definitely shouldn't encourage people to keep stuff that has been forgotten, what they do individually is up to them )

If it had been something personal like a bag or keys etc then I'd have handed it in. As it was, I found a cheap tinned pie in a trolley and no-one else was around so I considered it a donation to the weekly meal plan :o

P.s. Many thanks to DM, TM and others for herding all us cats over the weekend :)
