Tracking your expenses for a month is a good place to start because you can practice all of your basic skills like making a simple formula.
It does take some bravery though - to see in black and white exactly what you are spending and its always more shocking than you thought. I started one of these earlier this year and it was a right eye opener - all the little £1 and £2 spends in Sainsbobs really add up.
I didn't realise how much I spend on cat food each month so this lead me to start checking Amazon for bulk deals - to either see if I can find cheaper or different versions for similar amounts of money.

It depends on how your brain works but it might be worth seeing what you tube tutorials you can find - I find it easier to have a tutorial playing on the tablet/ipad while I have an excel sheet open on the main computer to copy what they are doing.
I've just had a look what you tubes there were and I was learning things I'd forgotten about especially with formulas so I have to go and see if I can implement these :D

The website www.moneydashboard.com can be a good way of analysing your spending - you link in your bank accounts, credit card etc and it then produces graphs and othert analysis.

It is challenged somewhat by the number of transfers flying between accounts to meet account interest requirements :D, but other than that it can be interesting :).

From memory, I signed up when it was on one of the cashback sites a while ago.
