I need the help of the elite if possible.
I can't get round the shops often and will not be anywhere until Friday but I am after a white/silver table runner and placemats. I left it late as wasn't 100% sure table would turn up in time and would have ended up cooking at mums.
The closest I have found that would do the job of protecting the new table top are cream felt ones on amazon ( a bundle).
Have looked at a few places online but no joy. Is this the sort of thing wilkinsons might still have? Nothing on dunelm and don't want to spend too much for one day as will no doubt find the perfect runner after xmas for year round use.

    TIA

    V x

If I type One stop shop into the search bar, but leave the location bit blank, it comes up with 1 one stop shop in Romford....I cant find any near me. I would be interested in what they reply to you.

I would be interested also to know how people do with trying to put a one stop claim in. We have one a few miles away so I tried putting the village name into the search box and I found another farm shop, a village stores and car spares shop so I've got 3 useful places to try out in that direction - this might lead me to Waitrose for coffee :)
Some of these places are so small they don't have Fb pages or websites

I'll let you know what they say but I'm not planning any shop until they promise me that they will give me my fiver back!

There is still very little near me though I have found one which is permanently closed so will message them about that too.

Just a word of warning with the 02 body shop thing, do not press the button before the offer is confirmed, I was told this morning that it was only working as 40% off but they are hoping it will be fixed soon.

That may well be why the SA at the BS this morning didn't click the buttons on my phones. I got 2 shower gels and the codes are unused so will try again if I end up there again. Didn't quite have the gall to go in again just an hour or less afterwards!

It did me good to get out and I spent no real money. Got two shower gels, three Clarins sample facewashes (lush stuff), bought my M&S pjs, remembering to use a credit note this time, and immediately returned them without a receipt so was £5 up. I then bought, with another credit note, some dress jewellery which I wanted, using the Sparks 20% discount. I also got four Malteser reindeers -- the first SA didn't click any buttons and the second put the two together and got so confused that she forgot to click the button on the second phone. I had a good potter too. On the way home I returned 4 bottles of WKD which I'd bought for Shopmium.

    Am pleased...

It is a simple roux sauce.

Basically you melt some butter on a low heat, remove from heat and stir in plain flour until the butter has absorbed all the flour, then you add milk very very slowly so as not to get any lumps, you can return it to the heat at this point, then you stand there stirring with a wooden spoon until it thickens.

At this point you can turn it into anything - eg strong cheese for a cheese sauce.

But for Christmas pudding, you now add some sugar, not too sweet, a little nutmeg, and either rum or brandy.

The key element in all of it is to do it slowly and keep tasting. Hth.

PS Full fat milk works best, or soya milk.

PPS You can buy Birds Brandy sauce in cartons but it will never be the same as home made.

Birds do a Brandy Sauce in a sachet if you want an easy option.
    I think that's what your dad's suggesting.

    Hth. Like custard powder.

Thanks both, much appreciated! This forum is a godsend :D I'll have the ingredients in the cupboard anyway so I might see how I feel on the day, if I can be bothered or not after doing the dinner. It may end up being custard or pouring cream otherwise, especially as I won't be eating it! :rotfl:

Thanks for the recipe, Seren. How stupid of me. I always make my own white sauce and my own cheese sauce but tend to buy the Birds brandy or rum sauce in packets. (Didn't know about the cartons.) I shall make my own in future and use soya milk so that it is dairy free. (I find that a whisk also helps to get rid of lumps...)

Arthien, you can make it in advance and freeze it if that helps and then just defrost it in the microwave.
