But they are both making things happen... :o:o:o:o

Not to the same extent. You can't interchange them in the examples I quoted. One makes it happen, the other changes it a bit. And of course their similarity is why it's easy to mix them up.

I always found the easiest way to remember was that a is before e so I/you/he/she/it/we/they all affect something and then that action causes an effect. If you need to put words like the, any, no, negative or positive before it then you're talking about the effect(s).

No idea if that's of any help at this time of night, but I was a language student so it's an area of interest for me :o

That's very helpful if you assume one is a verb and one a noun, which is the most common use. I found this site clearer than the other one the OP quoted -- shorter, too! http://blog.dictionary.com/affect-or-effect/

I dont know how everyone else is using the map, but I search the shop small map by just putting in the town, and then scroll through the list of shops, often having to google them. A shop called Taylor & Son could be anything....its only after a google that you find out its a butchers. I wish they would make it easier and have the shop description, butcher, haberdashery, newsagents etc in the title.

I agree. Not a lot near me, bar takeaways and restaurants, though my normal hairdresser is on the list which is a real bonus.

My PO is not even showing as a pending transaction and I shopped there on Thursday!

I've got one not showing at all. Debating whether to cut my gammon joint in half before freezing......portion control is paramount :)
