I understand that with cuts just saying it dont help people that get flooded year in and year out

There are always things that they can do, clear the ditches/culverts, plant trees and allow them to mature/stop cutting down trees, and then some specialist measures for areas at risk.... although I don't think that they will ever stop York flooding.

I wish if building regulations would address this problem. Our new house has drainage that you can cut off, there is an air ventilation system that goes out on the third floor.... windows are sealed.... but flipping doors have let us down...:(

I know. Prevention is better than a cure, Its so frustrating when you can see what needs to be done but you can't get it done

I have been called some awful things and I don't even do flooding I do trees.

  • I totally go for planting trees, that's what I do.

A controversial issue is the large amount of people who have paved over the gardens of parking etc, I think some counties have started putting in restrictions

We need to put some thought into the driveway of the new house. Whilst we would love stones, we need to be accessible for wheelchairs so it just will not work with stones. There is permeable hard standing, but still not suitable for wheelchairs. We are edging towards part stone, but a hard standing path to the disabled access...... it is catch 22 situation!

I have been looking for flood proof doors, but they really do not exist. I cannot believe it, as they would make a fortune. Similar technology to a walk in bath.... reinforced bars to cope with the pressure.

Anyone want to set up business with me.... we could make a killing!

I think the problem is when the water table is high, it doesn't matter what type of door you have, as it will just come up under your floor:o

Not in a concrete slab, there are no egress points...... the problem is the doors (sadly).
