We just have loads of feral cats......I thought we had a fox in the field the other night.I watched him for ages worried about the hens next door as he crept among the long grass.

When he got closer I realised that he was a big ginger tom:rotfl:

TM I forgot to say - all of our communication has been by facebook messenger, so I do have everything in writing. I am in the process of drafting a formal letter.

Again, a complicating factor (it shouldn't be, but with what happened with my friend passing away a month ago means I've struggled to separate it) is that one of them is going into hospital this week for a mastectomy. Because of this I have been super nice right from the start, too nice for my own good really as I now just feel like I've been completely taken advantage of and walked all over. If they want that money they'll need to take me to court. I'm in the process of getting some companies in to quote for what needs to be done to bring it up to an acceptable standard. I'm just worried that £700 won't be enough as it is honestly awful. This was such a lot of money for me t pay out, and quite an impulsive decision, very unlike me, and its really come back to bite me. :(

Standard procedure is to give them the opportunity to put it right before going elsewhere.

Would you be happier by cutting ties now? Maybe they would agree to you retaining the £700 to put the work right, given their circumstances.

Can someone please tell me how I do a screen shot and explain how I send it to Holiday Extras ? Or is it easier if I just phone them ?

I think I've found the same hotel/parking deal a few £'s cheaper elsewhere so, provided the prices don't change overnight, I'm hoping to book tomorrow.

I would appreciate any advice please.

Please double check T&C's are the same, particularly cancellation terms. I always take out their insurance (about £1.49, I think) just in case. That has always been refunded as well as the parking/hotel/lounge after I've used the service. Good luck.

I would keep the personal stuff completely separate LS. Because it's not personal. You just want value for money.

They may feel it's disrespectful and offensive but all you've done is legitimately complain about poor workmanship. They are interpreting it as disrespectful but I'm sure you've been fair but firm.

Keep the lines of communication open. Could you have a meeting at your house to show them what the problem is....if it is shocking they need to see it

One of them has seen the garden, when she came over to collect the balance over a week ago (when I did hand over the balance less the 20% which I said would be handed over when it was fixed to an appropriate standard). Didn't hear a thing for over a week, then had a lengthy text message asking for payment in next 7 days, then Facebook messages yesterday.

not an easy situation. On a practical level your contract is with the service providers and they are responsible for carrying out the work to the agreed standard. If they have then sub-contracted the work out, their contract is with the sub-contractor and any problems arising from that work are between those two. They still have a duty to provide you with what was agreed, be it by themselves or by means of a sub-contractor they have chosen. Further on from that there are choices with redress on whether you can have the work amended/re-done or a refund/reduction in price.

I'd personally close them down from contacting you on FB if things are
getting lairy. Do keep a means of contact open but make it a bit more formal. I've had some very good advice from the police myself recently about responding to certain types of online contact :o

I'm about to collapse shortly :o:rotfl: but if you need some help with letters, points of law etc. then please get in touch. I'll help if I can. You've been very kind to me lately and I'd like to help

Thanks fc. I might message you if that's ok? There is quite a bit more to the story including work that was quoted for then not done as they "made an error" so it's quite a tale of woe!
Sorry seen this since my reply.
Has the work they have done been sub standard or is this just to get the 20% done?
You have been nice as I wouldn't have paid until the job they had quoted for had been done to a good standard. I don't expect to pay a deposit on a job either as reputable firms can finance their work.
Take lots of photos (and dig out some of before work if possible) important to have proof that some of the work quoted for was not done and also the standard of the work. If not up to standard then they need to pay to fix this so you might be the one taking them to court to pay for repairs.

    V x

The work is completely substandard. If I knew how to put pics up on here from my mobile I would put some up. It's a cowboy firm which I should have realised, but because I knew them and trusted them I went ahead.

Sivercar I messaged several times to say I wasn't happy, and was advised to speak to the chap doing it, which I did. Yesterday I agreed to her sending a landscaper round, although I did state I would rather that was on a one to one basis (basically because in her messages she is insisting there is nothing wrong with the artificial grass and it's because I chose a cheaper one). I also said I would be getting an independent company to come and look and quote on getting it to an acceptable standard. At that point I was told "I'd never be happy" so I think it's safe to say communication has broken down!
