LS, we have made an error in a quote before (well, OH has). We still did the work and we still made sure it was to the correct standard.
A decent company would always complete the work as agreed. If it is a fixed price quote then that is their problem, not yours.
Keep the communications factual, take it off facebook and ask them to email you. I left it till FC had commented as she has more knowledge on this, but we have experienced the opposite and only a cowboy would use a misquote as an excuse.
That said, a lot of our clients know us so well now that they no longer ask for quotesWhat is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Thanks Enterprise. This is where I am going to sound like a complete numpty, but I don't know their address or if they have an email. They advertise their business on facebook, and word of mouth. Thats why I have been doing everything through facebook messenger, as I thought at least its a written record of what has been said by both parties.
As I said, its only because I know them both (not friends, but I liked them), they had done some very minor work for me before, and I have only ever heard positive things about them both word of mouth and on facebook (and they do a lot of work for police given that one of them is in the job) that I went with them. In hindsight my decision making was poor - they came round and quoted the day my friend passed away, I did no research, got no other companies in etc and just went with it. I am never normally impulsive like that and normally research everything to the nth degree.0 -
Oh dear LS, that is not good
If they do work for the Police, then should you not inform the appropriate people of the problem you have had with them? And surely they could not take a contract out without proper contact details? Could you not ask someone you know there for their contact details? Surely you have legitimate reasons for the request. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Doesn't work like that Enterprise. Although one of them works for the police, this business is entirely separate. It would have needed to be disclosed as a business interest to professional standards, but thats as far as it goes. My complaint is a civil matter, so the police can't go out handing out addresses, even if it was a criminal matter we don't go handing out suspect addresses!
And there was no signed contract. Everything done via messenger. When they came to quote all discussed verbally, but they were also given photographs of what I wanted (found a garden on another forum that I go on that had had work done and it was exactly what I wanted so copied the pics and gave them to them). There was no confusion over what I was wanting and what the quote was including.0 -

I was thinking more as one client to another of the same company, but I suppose they will have to act as the police even in those circumstances. Even so, I would have thought your contracts people would like to have been informed that they are under par so to speak. Does your friend not have any more contact details?
Might be worth asking them on FB if they have an email address?
Still, if they try to take it any further they will have to disclose more contact details anyway. All I can say is good luck. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Friend might know their address. To be honest I'm loathe to ask anything on facebook as can't cope with another day of messages! I'm going to get my formal letter finished today and will send that via messenger today as an attachment, if I do get an address I'll also send a copy recorded delivery.
I've taken up fc's very kind offer of help and sent her a long (sorry fc!) message with the whole story, so hopefully she can give me some advice and I'll stop boring you all. Just wanted to explain why I hadn't been about much, its been a really stressful couple of weeks unfortunately.
Anyway, off to aqua aerobics now, work off a bit of that frustration!0 -

Hiya
Lots of juicy wee laws to protect you here LS.
have a look at this

And the conversation on FB would probably be enough for evidence, Besides there are other terms that cover verbal agreements etc. If he has made an offer to do the work and you have accepted the offer it means a contract has been made.

FC is probably your lass on this one. We covered it in law but I ain't no lawyer.
And as we say round my bit. I hope his next Carp is a hedgehog :eek:0 -
Morning all, finally it seems to have stopped raining.
Does anyone know anything about peacocks?
Its this mornings dilemma on our local streetlife group. In the next village they have a feral peacock wondering around from garden to garden. Someone has phoned the local RSPCA hospital but unless its injured then they cant take him in.
I am assuming it has no ID rings on its legs
(yes they are quite posh in the next village - most people just have stray cats, dogs or feral children)
We had one turn up once & we had to catch it with the net from neighbours tennis court :eek: Not something I would want to repeatOur Family Motto ~If all else fails - read the instructions...
