This is brutal but effective A kitchen devil "slug" knife,
I am afraid I chop them in half, It is quick and organic and after what they have done to my violas, I think only fair!!!

A friend told me to spray your plants with black coffee, the slugs and snails won't smell the plant and will leave it alone. I have tried it for a few years and it does work but you need to re-do it every time it rains!Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards. Soreen Kierkegaard 1854.0

Just remember:
- Don't let him do it near any clean windows;
- Take his shoes off before he goes back in the house.

I think that you need to listen to BBC 7 and series called at home with the snails. It is a comedy and this guy had to do this with snails collect them up everynight and kill them.
He then progessed to living in the garden shed with them as he hated what he had done when he was younger.

I need to find a way before they eat off all my plants.

They don't like slithering over ash either - I think because it dries them up too much. Spread some ash round your seedlings to protect themMink0

I had a young plant which was doing well until attacked by slugs. My mate came round and told me to put vaseline around the bottom of the pot 1"-2", so they can't climb up and make sure the pot isn't near something else they can use to gain entry from. Its been a couple of days and no slugs yet. Next to my plant is the beer cup, which i haven't checked yet0

No slugs near either, so far so good. Maybe i confused the slugs as i've put it near some heathers which they dont like, not soft enough!0

If you can't bear to leave a wee bit of beer from your bottle for the ugly beasts, you can make a dough trap, which works in the same way as a beer trap.
When you are making your lovely homemade bread, save a bit of the dough, the size of a walnut will do and work some extra water into it, so that it is very sticky and sloppy. Put it in an old yoghurt pot or similar and leave it to ferment for a day or so. Then bury it in the veg plot so that the rim is level with the soil. The smell of the yeast attracts the slimy devils and to dispose, you just chuck the whole thing.
You don't have to empty it daily, but can add more dough as you make your bread, which being old stylers, you'll be doing often, eh?0 -
Sorry I havent read this whole thread but did anyone watch BBC Spring Watch last night? (Wednesday)
Slugs -
Big and Black ... Throw it back (black slugs eat dead vegitation)
Small and Brown ... Grind it down (small ones eat your favorite and most tastiest plants)
OK grind it down is a bit nasty, everything has a right to live but if you must... as mentioned before beer traps seem to work best, they dont like to cross crushed eggshells, copper gives them a little shock and vaseline tastes nasty to them.

I also notied on Spring watch how thick the copper 'wire' they were using was, it was about 1" or 2" thick, looked like it was working though.
I had loads of greenfly and black fly on my tomato plants on Saturday, I know they don't like the smell of marigolds, onions and garlic but I haven't got room in the hanging basket with the tomatoes for these so, I got some dried garlic from my herbs cupboard and sprinkled it all over the soil and the basket, the greenfly must HATE it because they've all disappeared :T obviously it will need re-appling if it rains but I'm being careful when I water not to water the sides of the basket where I put the garlic. Might work if you just put the odd clove of garlic in the basket??
Unfortunatly I've still got loads of black fly, they seem to love the smell of garlic  any ideas of what I can do to get rid of them, preferably organicish ideas. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -

Yes. You can buy a natural insecticidal soap to spray on them - safe to use on vegetables and organic.
There's one here and another here
