I'm going on holiday in 2 weeks to Croatia, i had planned on at least £800 but due to overspending in a festival last week i've been left with only £500 and i don't get paid until 2 days before the end of my holiday

So i've been looking at different options

I've asked family to borrow the answer was no

So now i'm thinking either a payday loan or overseas Credit Card

I'm leaning towards the credit card because the money i have should last me until i get paid, but only thing will be accessing that money while i am abroad, Currently have a natwest debit card which i have used abroad before and got charged loads!

What do you guys think?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum

But you can afford both a festival and a holiday? I'm sure there's plenty you could sell, you just don't want to.

Maybe post in the credit card forum - a pay day loan will wreck your credit rating for at least the next 6 years.

Whatever you do in terms of some extra holiday money, it might be really useful to have a good look round this site and forum so you can manage your money better. Even if you still end up getting wasted and overspend at festivals, there are masses of tips here for saving money which, if nothing else, will give you more spending money for other festivals!

I doubt there is enought time to get a card now in time for your departure date ?

However for future use, plenty of punters here who can advise on debit and credit cards for holidays.

If you don't have access to funds until near the end of your holiday a fee free debit card is not a runner - you'd need a similar commission free credit card.

Will I have no chance at all of getting a credit card in time then? I fly on the 28th!

I'm going to try and persuade my parents to borrow me £200!

I will be looking around the site to help with my finances though

Not a hope getting a credit card in time. I realised mine had expired about 3 weeks before I went on holiday last year. All i needed was a replacement and that wasn't going to arrive in time so I doubt a new card would and how are you sure you'd get accepted anyway.

Maybe ask the bank for a timelinted overdraft? As in the money you want to borrow from your folks until you get back back from your holiday. Or sell something or do some jobs locally. Offer to cut the grass for elderly neighbours etc.

Well, if you are planning on converting GBP to HRK then you should firstly consider whether you are getting mugged off in England and whether you could squeeze a bit more out if you buy the currency whilst over there...

Example, I bought some zloty in England recently when it was at its peak, but the UK gave me a rate of 5.03 when it was 5.70 on the exchange. It dropped to around 5.5 but you could buy zloty locally in Poland at around 5.4!! So so easy! Didn't even have to shop around!

You could also apply for a currency card which arrives usually within 3-5 working days (pushing it a bit, but do-able. I ordered mine within 2 weeks but I only loaded £10 onto it = 54 zloty). I used caxtonfx.com if that helps.... They have a small min initial load and then a £100 min load, but to be honest the initial load didn't seem to go through (site glitch, but money taken) so bear that in mind. Good thing about that is mastercard has a very good conversion rate compared to currency exchanges. Just under market rate.

Aside from that, you'll have to borrow money from another source.

Don't go down the route of a pay day loan! I use a Halifax Clarity MasterCard. It's great for going abroad

For goodness sake, you knew your holiday was coming up, yet you still went ahead and spent your spending money on something else. There's a hard lesson to be learnt there, you can't have everything you want.

Don't go begging to family for money, learn to manage, money in v money out. Make do with the £500 you have, and start saving for the next holiday the moment you come back. And don't go frittering it away next time. And if you go for a payday loan you are a clown.
