Any experience: late summer last minute packages with Thomson?

Hello all.

Mrs Ontheroad and I are planning a week away at the very end of August or early September. We can't afford to book now, but are hopeful of grabbing something last minute, ideally in the first week of September.

Not having done this before, could any more regular customers let us know if we stand much chance of finding a good late deal with Thomson?

We are close to one of their regional airports (NWI) and some of the resorts in Cyprus and Turkey are appealing, but we wondered if there is any probability of late discounts.

There are lots of flights from LBA/LPL/MAN so perhaps look at something unpackaged that's within budget that you'd like instead of risking something on a package holiday that may have rubbish flight times to a below average hotel.

The OP is flying from Norwich - not the north west. NWI is the airport code for Norwich.

OP, I've been on a couple of late deals (although not from your airport). Just be very careful to research the hotel fully, as you would with any normal booking. Maybe download tripadvisor onto a smartphone if booking in store, or use their site if you're doing it online.

There will be few if any deals to Spain and Portugal but Turkey should be OK, if you are happy travelling there and if there are flights from Norwich. Having checked there are weekly flights on Mondays but the last flight is 19th September and therefore you would have to travel either one or two weeks before then and it does seem Thomsons are the only operator at that airport, so if it has to be from there, there is only one place to look

I very rarely see any bargains from Norwich, there is a bit of a monopoly on prices due to lack of competition round here! However you may get lucky with Turkey, as many people are avoiding it this year.

We live 5 miles from Norwich Airport, my husband actually works at the airport, yet our next holiday is from Gatwick, and we mostly fly from Stanstead.

just came back from a week in Kos, booked 3 weeks ago via Thomson. Had a right bargain, everything was fine, no hiccups. We have never paid to sit together on the plane, but got allocated seats next to each other on both flights. If you can, go for it, I have checked prices every day 4 weeks before my departure day and they seem to fluctuate quite a lot. As per someone's post before, do check Trip advisor before booking and also hotel location, as some are out of town and would require a car to get away
