How about buying a bar of every variety of Cadbury's "chocolate" (it's not chocolate!) and keeping them in storage? There seem to be new and ever more ghastly varieties every week, they're not gonna be around for long.
Who could resist a 50 year-old bar of Cadbury's? Your kids will be millionaires!*
*Please note that the value of your investments may go down, as well as up.
I do actually have a valuable collectable from 1997 that i saved thinking it would go up in value, and it did! Its currently worth a grand so i've got the golden touch
I was thinking BHS stuff might go up in price as it is a British institution that'll be long gone soon but who's going to want 2016 cushion covers or lampshades in 2066? Definitely a big gamble on that 1 :think:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I've got a BHS blouse that I've been wearing for about 5 years (still looks almost as good as new!
)...I'll stick that in the attic, just in case!
I used to work for BHS back in the 80's. If you lived in Woolwich back then, and you bought a lamp from there, chances are that I wired the plug for you. Until I was told to stop, in case I accidentally electrocuted someone!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
It's nigh impossible to guess.
Most of the time, though, it's about getting something and keeping it pristine or at least in the box. Even that doesn't work every time - there's a slightly appreciating toy sitting in my loft that is currently probably worth less in the box than out of it - a fully working Stylophone with Rolf Harris' face all over the packaging ...0 -

In general when it comes to toys it is the less popular models that go for higher prices because they tend to end up being rarer.0 -
Anything remotely connected to the Battle of Britain.
Flying Boots = £3K
Spade Grip out of a Spitfire or Hurricane = £3K +
Pilots Goggles = £1K (1939 even more)
Flying Helmet = £2K (depending on condition)
Barr & Stroud Gunsight (sold for £25 after the war) up to £5K (depending on condition)
Any instrument panel gauge. Hawker Hurricane fuel gauge at least £700. Others would be no less than £300.
Hawker Hurricane Undercarriage Indicator = Name your price
Even an Oxygen Hose (Black/Yellow Herringbone Pattern) would fetch at least £900 -
I was reading something about this recently and a couple of things that I remember them saying that were doing well was stamps and antiques.
We've all seen what happened to classic cars, prices went mental than dropped through the floor. They are on the up again at the moment but......
I'm sure that as far as stamps go they are currently returning about 10% p/a on the rarer collectable ones.
We've collected quite a few stamps over the years as my youngest developed an interest in them at the time.
I would say that, of the ones we've got, there has definitely been an increase in value that makes it worthwhile collectingThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
I'm rubbish at this. I have two full sets of Natwest pigs which were worth quite a lot last time I looked but apart from that....I have numerous empty biscuit tins, I don't know why. I have leaflets about the millennium bug because I thought that might be interesting in years to come, but probably not worth much. I also have year 2000 'stuff' mostly tat. I did have all the early Beatles singles but they got left behind in a house move. I don't think my kids would thank me for any of my 'collections'.0

The Nat west pigs have gone from around £100 a complete set 6-7 years ago to nearer £25 now. I even saw a set without the original plastic covers on base struggle to sell at an auction for £10. It might be worth keeping an eye on the market before they become like Wedgwood jasper ware and have no value at all.
This set for instance does have a hairline crack in one of them but seller would have ended up with about £25 after fees

Bearing in mind we're talking about values in 50 years time, will people still be interested in something that happened 125 years previously. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
