The other day at my mums house, i had to get some boxes down from the loft for her. Whilst up there i found her old vinyl collection and did some ebay searches on my phone and some of them are worth like 40 quid each
There's a lot of old collectable looking stuff up there and obviously she's thought ahead and kept stuff that increased in value ready for me to sell after i inherit it!
Its made me think though, what should i start collecting now that will be worth loads in the future? I dont think my kids would appreciate an iphone, or my beats by dre in 50 years time!
We're not in the position financially to start saving yet so why not start collecting cheap stuff that will go up in value over time

Doesnt always work mate, my mum bought some puppet things that she said would be worth something when i grow up, £20 theyre worth and thats if i hadnt knotted all the wires messing about with them.
Games consoles, when i say games consoles i mean the retro ones, still enough about to be cheap enough but there will always be a market going forward for things like that.
N64
Dreamcast
PS one
Megadrive ect.
Seen them all get more and more expensive (only small increments) over the last few years.
The games to go with them too. Just look on ebay for final fantasy 7, 19 year old game thats selling for £20+ because its awesome and not made anymore (although there is a remake coming out).0 -

They've certainly increased in value, but well under inflation. Save what little you can, because then at least it will be worth something.0

Don't even go there
DH has toy cars, hundreds of them. Some worth hundreds, some he's counting on to rise in price. They are EVERYWHERE. The more expensive ones in drawers to protect them from the light. I'm sick of the sight of them lol0 -

I do understand what your saying, it started out as a £299 console. But i bought my ps one for a fiver off a car boot 2 years ago, they sell for £20+ on ebay now and will only get more rare. Thats like 300% inflation, my fiver in a bank would've earned me about 22pence. But then the 22p is realised so i dont know.
Its hard to predict trends, look at star wars. I cant imagine youll get the same colectibleness from the current range of toys available due to the saturation of them.
Coins, coins always seem to at least hold their value (in line with inflation) and then you can get the odd one or two that massively increases in value. I believe the beatrix potter ones are going for silly money now and they're a brand new coin.0 -

you start collecting memories...believe me they are priceless when the loved one has gone in the future.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
I was reading something about this recently and a couple of things that I remember them saying that were doing well was stamps and antiques.
We've all seen what happened to classic cars, prices went mental than dropped through the floor. They are on the up again at the moment but......
I'm sure that as far as stamps go they are currently returning about 10% p/a on the rarer collectable ones. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
LEGO
Apparently it's one of 3 things that's value goes up ever year.
At least so I 'm told by my bf....or that could just be an excuse for him to buy more LEGOThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I am a bit of a sci fi freak and when I started selling online as a business several people I met through conventions and events asked me to sell bits from their collection. Unfortunately most of the collectable items even mint and boxed are cheaper now then when purchased.
A few examples include boxed Action figures , in one case a person had paid on average £10 an item and had bought one for themselves and one to store as a pension pot. For 20-30 years they had paid for storage and when we did a quick check found most would bring around £3 after fees and postage. Another friend had done the same with autographs (it is usual to pay around £10 for a signed photo at an event). However fashions move on and whereas at the time the fans loved Xena and Buffy but now years later the pool of fans is smaller and you can barely give an autograph away.
The issue was that many years ago people were reporting getting hundreds of pounds for original boxed Star War figures and I think people just assumed that each fandom would increase in value. The overlooked point was that the occasional figure may have made hundreds, but I suspect many of the sellers had spent hundreds of pounds on other stock that they can't now sell.
Going away from Sci Fi , every single auction house appears to think that German pottery is going to be the next is thing, they have been saying that now for years.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
