Whilst I'm not a fan of Te*co I've found their 'imperfect' strawberries at £1.00 a punnet really good. All odd sizes and shapes with great taste - the punnet I have just now is 'Sontana'.

    £1.29 for 400g for me.

    They are delicious :D

But yesterday in store they were Elsanta :(

  • Went to my local greengrocer yesterday. Saw a punnet of Belgium strawberries and they are absolutely delicious. Very surprised but Asda's loss as I won't be getting their strawberries again.

G/grocer was also selling British strawberries but label did not indicate type or where they are from in UK. Will ask them later this week and whether they are OK with me trying one.

    Belgium ones are from http://www.hoogstraten.eu/en/fruit-vegetables/strawberries/.

Really nice and very cheap as well.

Just avoid any strawberries labelled as USA - absolutely no taste.

Unlike the poster above, I have found that Aldi's strawberries are poor keepers, but bought a £3 special offer punnet from Tesco, last week and they were both tasty and long lasting (not a single bruised one for the bin).

I used to love this 'pick your own' season at local farms, but, sadly, the bones make it no longer enjoyable. We'd fill a huge basket, which lasted about a week.

Not true from my experience. The ones grown around Watsonville in California have always been very tasty. What you do need to be aware of is their use of irradiation. I once found a punnet that had been pushed to the back of the fridge - they still looked perfect, even though they had been there for over 2 weeks

Very good, only buy British, none of that foreign muck.
