Buyer not responding to agent

We accepted an offer on our property 7 weeks ago. As soon as we accepted the offer we appointed our solicitors and presumed all was going through.
However we only had the mortgage valuation completed on the house at the start of last week and then the following day our estate agents called and said they could not contact our buyers and that they had not yet instructed a solicitor.
I have phoned the estate agents again today and have been advised they still have not instructed the solicitor and also that they have still not been able to get in contact via phone or email. They also advised when they called it was not a foreign ringtone.
This has left me very unsure that this sale will proceed, the estate agent advised that at lest they had paid for the valuation as that shows some commitment but it makes me feel uncomfortable.
Any advice on any similar situations? What can we do, we can't just keep waiting in limbo for them.

Buyer on holiday?
Still awaiting the mortgage offer before proceeding further?0 -
They may be away however they have emailed last week and this week and phoned also with no foreign ringtone so I would have thought they would reply. If waiting for mortgage offer you would think they would still speak to agents.0

Presumably you have their current address from the memorandum of sale.
If it's nearby, you can either be a super-sleuth and go to see if there's any signs of life, or you could just knock on the door.0 -
Good idea.0

It'd be back on the market if it were me. 7 weeks and no solicitor? I don't think so.....0

I'd give a deadline - lots of people put offers on several things and don't bother letting vendors know when they no longer want their house.
"As we're now 7 weeks in and we've had no communication with regard to your solicitor, survey, [etc] and we've not had replies to our calls [word accordingly], if we have not received communication from you by [whenever], we will presume you are no longer looking to purchase this property and will remarket accordingly."

PS I would only give them a couple of days, certainly not weeks, or even one week. Timewasters. If they're that slow at this stage of the game, it's likely to take 6 months at this rate if they do go ahead.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
They are probably trying to save money by not instructing a solicitor until after survey in case the survey shows up problems. It might take a week for them to get the results of survey from the surveyor, then they need to read it etc. I'd definitely be wary because they are not replying but I wouldn't give up, at least they have had a survey done and it was only last week, however you should be hearing by end of this week IMO at least.0

Some lenders are offering free surveys for house purchases at the moment, so don't let the survey situation give you a false sense of security. Get it back on the market but delay accepting offers until you've heard back from them.I am a Mortgage Adviser

7 weeks and no solicitor instructed. I'd be getting your property back on the market.0

As above, 7 weeks and no solicitor instructed?
I would put the property back on the market and have the agent tell them that is what is happening0
