Mobile Broadband - MIFI WIFI Dongle

Hi,
We're currently stuck without home broadband as a result of a !!!!-up courtesy of Plusnet.
I'm having to spend £20/10gb via my EE account, using personal hotspot on the iPhone to connect. My wife is doing the same.
I wondered if it might be best to buy a mobile broadband gadget, that can provide us both with wifi at home. I could then use it later when we go on holiday, buying a sim card locally.
Does anyone know what to buy and where to get the best deal for a data sim in the UK?
