Hi everyone
Me and my hubby have decided to go away here next year for a week with no kids!!! Wooo hooooo!!!!:D
Unsure whether to go self catering or all inclusive though so was wondering if some lovely person on here could be mega helpful and give me a quick rundown on what a few things cost.
Like(most important first lol) pint of beer, cocktail, bottle of wine, breakfast out, 3 course evening meal, supermarket stuff like milk, tea, coffee, water, club entry, watersports, sea fishing.
Anything else???????
Sorry to be a pain in the bum but its such a rare opportunity for us to be able to go away on our own when we have 5 smallies!!!!!
Anyone been to Iclemar also??? Is it right for a young couple????
Thanks in advance

Iclemar is lovely - it is much quieter than its neighbour marmaris which makes it a nice place to stay..plus in a great location for not being too far away to travel to marmaris by Dolmus(bus) or taxi so that you can experience the more hustle and bustle that marmaris has to offer. Iclemar has a wonderful market where you will be spoilt for choice - take an empty suit case! Food is dead cheap in Turkey - I suuggest you do not have a food option at a hotel as if it turns out not to be a top hotel then you lose out ...plus you also lose out on the experience of trying out different places. Expect to pay little more than about £6 for a decent meal - if you really splash out then for £10 you will eat like a king! Beeer varies between 50p - £1.00 depending on what it is - never have the wine so not sure but imagine cheap. Breakfasts are served everywhere for about £2.50 - it may be a ittle more expensive in Iclemar as there is not so much choice but still cheap. Water is about the same price as here as is the milk etc. There are supermarkets that stock pretty much anything you could want but curiously it actually costs more to stock up at the supermarket than to eat out !! Trips are cheap - especially the boat trips - dont book at the hotels!!! You can often even get a boat trip for nothing and they are a great day! Have a fantastic holiday - buy some jewellery!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

we stayed just outside marmaris on a self catering basis. i would reccommend going self catering as its cheap, lots of variety and they always give you something free. we went 2 yrs ago there was 4 adults, six kids and a few night we managed to get the six kids meals free. BIG word of advice... BARTER when you go to the local markets, my fella wanted a pair of shoes, the guy wanted 120 turkish lira i said i'd pay 50, after few mins he chased after me and i paid 50!!! jewellery is really really cheap too
enjoy!!!0 -
Icmeler is fantastic, a great place to go. You can easily get the bus to Marmaris for a lively night out for around 40p each. Or get the taxi boat for £1.50 each.
Food is soooo cheap. You can buy freshly made pizza's in Icmeler from £1!!!
Beer ranges from 50p-£1.25 a pint, cocktails are roughly £4 but worth it!
You can go on boat trips from £5 per person inc lunch which are fine but i would recommend you pay to go on one of the more expensive oneswhich are still only £10 for all day but often include your drinks too :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I found this year that Icmeler was cheaper & better quality than Marmaris for food, & for its shopping
If you want any more info pm me as we know the area quite well & can tell you where to avoid!
Have a great time.0 -
Bodrum is very lively - as is Marmaris!! i would say that if lively bothers you then you should stick to Iclemar - it really is lovely ...it has lovely little stone houses and flowers everywhere and you have to travel through the mountain road to get there. marmaris takes about 20 minutes by bus so when you fancy going on the town you can - but when you fancy some peace and quiet you can have that too. The only thing you have to think is that if you find you prefer to be "in the tick of the action" then it can be costly to go bacwards and forwards - it is cheap , but when you are doing it several times a day then it can add up. Marmaris is massive - has more restaurants than you could ever choose from , a marina, Turkish baths, the permanent market area and weekly market , but it is very commercialised. Personally, I love it - there is always something going on and somewhere new to try to eat..but when we visited Icmelar it was lovely to have such peace and quiet! It all depends what sort of people you are - and after all you have not got to wory about entertaining the kids!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

You will be fine staying in Marmaris. It's often portrayed as noisy and brash but that's a lazy generalisation in my opinion. The old town and Marina areas offer some lovely places to eat and drink whilst bar st and the "strip" along the sea front come alive at night.
Personally I would not go all inclusive. There are thousands of reasonably priced places to eat and food is generally very good. Beer costs around £1.20 and diner for two including a bottle of wine costs about £22 (A nice bottle costs around £10).
The most expensive meals say fillet steak cost around 20YTL (£8), Roast Chicken about 12YTL (£5).
As Sara said you can flit between Iclemar and Marmaris very easily on the dolmush or you can take the water taxi.
I can't comment on boat trips and sea fishing prices but there are numerous agencies in Marmaris that can provide info.No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
if you want a relaxing holiday with a bit of nightlife ( not clubbing) ichmeler is best, beach is great nice and quiet, and nice resturant at night
and u only have marmaris 5 minutes away if u want some more nightlife
i used to live in marmaris and i love it, best resturants are there are picassos ,faros beach and magic house, (magic house has alot of entertainment shows, magic show, belly danceing, break danceing, fire show ect
marmaris has the biggest market on a thrusday, and a small market near ichmeler , icmeler market is wedesday but its a smaller market than marmaris
and most places have tedley tea,(but u have to ask for hot tea with milk lol as turkish dont have tea with milk its werid to them lol)
altikum and hisorana sorry im not sure thats the right spelling lol but they have lovely beachs but dont have the nighlife
there are many tours u can go to when in marmaris/icmeler
boat trips for £5-10
go to pammakule(white waterfall) or ephasus(roman )
horse riding,water park ,
and i wouldnt go self catering in turkey its much better, its so cheap to eat out and most of the hotels food is rubbish and not a big selection
best places for holidays to turkey are https://www.h4u.co.uk or thomsons, thomas cook
hope this helps, july and august are the most hottest days and i mean hot:money: COMP TARGET £400
START DATE 16TH APRIL 20070 -
Icmeler is just a smaller version of Marmaris now, most shops, bars, restaurants will charge you a great deal more than somewhere typically Turkish.
Where I live in Koycegiz (an hours drive from Marmaris), Efes beer is 2.5 YTL for a 50cl bottle, a Turkish breakfast is 5 YTL (we can`t get & don`t want an English breakfast here), a bottle of wine (Turps, as is most Turkish wine) is 2.5 YTL for a 70cl bottle, Water is 250cl = 25 Kurus, 1 Litre = 1 YTL, most groceries including Nescafe coffee are cheaper than England (as long as you don`t buy imported goods) The Tea-bags are crap, bring your own.
Don`t bother buying clothes here, they`re cheaper in Primark. unless you want cheaply made designer copies. Shoes & Named Trainers here are crap aswell, Turkish trainers are not too bad at 13 to 20 YTL (don`t pay more).
If you do want to buy something in the market, pay 25 to 33% of what the stall holder asks,
And finally, if you go for a night out in a bar, keep account of what you`ve had, the barmen have a tendency to add a few drinks on to your bill.
Have a nice holiday.
