Can these current accounts be opened entirely online without visiting a branch?

Have opened all of the above - I had to take ID into Nationwide. Hubby opened them all on-line, no ID requested.
Can't remember who needed forms signing & who didn't.Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
My experience was that I opened Nationwide completely online, but my husband had to take ID to the branch.
TSB was done completely online for both of us, and they give the account number immediately. We also have a joint account with them, which I had to open in my sole name and then we had to go to the branch to make it joint, which was a bit of a pain.
Santander, joint account, done completely online, as was Tescos
M&S done online, but they phoned both of us to clarify information.
Some needed signature forms done by post, can't remember which ones, though.Early retired - 18th December 2014

The question were: Can Tesco, Lloyds, TSB and Nationwide current accounts be opened online or do they require you to visit a branch to open the account?
Which of the questions do your answers refer to?0 -

In my own experience, TSB, Lloyds and Nationwide can be opened entirely online. However, if your identity cannot be verified online you will need to visit a branch with ID.0 -

I applied for Nationwide FlexDirect today. It was approved but then I received an email saying I would need to visit a branch with ID to open the account. I am now unsure if I want to proceed with the application. What typically happens during one of these visits? If they ask what the account is going to be used for is it ok to say I intend to use it for savings?0

I'd wait, are you an existing customer? If so then I wouldn't bother going in, it is just their default, if you don't hold other accounts with them then you'll probably have to present ID, it's pretty certain there'll be no hard questions or hard sell so wouldn't worry about it.0 -

I got the same email last week when I opened an account with NW, next day I went to the bank with my driving licence.
All I was asked was some security question and the staff said I should get my bank card and the pin in next few days.

They wont ask any of this, the branch staff are in no way connected to your online application process and also wont be interested. They will take photocopies of your ID's and fax them to head office, thats it.
OP in answer to your question, every bank will allow you to open an account online without visiting a branch, but if they cannot verify your ID, they will ask you in.
I dont know why people are so scared of going into branch.0
