BA denied boarding Debit Card

Hi,
Against my instincts I foolishly booked on BA948 from LHR to Munich on Saturday morning because it was cheap (£80 return) and decent times for what I was trying to do. I was out of the country all day Friday, so unable to check in online due to BA's stupid 24 hour before limit. Anyway, pitched up at check-in at about 5:15AM for a 6:55AM flight only to be given the run around by the self service check in machines in T5.
Anyway, turns out the Friday night flight to Munich had been cancelled, and they'd re-booked those passengers on 'my' flight which meant they'd overbooked and there was no seat for me and one other passenger.
So the drill was to re-book on the next flight (09:10) and 250Euro compensation for refused boarding. They give you a debit card pre-loaded with the equivalent of 250Euros in GBP - which they say is £197.
So how do I get £197 off a debit card?
I want every single penny I'm owed.

I won't be travelling BA again anytime soon.
Cheers

Oh I don't know - as a non-morning person if I'd had to be up early to be at the airport for stupid o'clock only to find I'd been bumped off the flight I'd probably be a tad miffed as well. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

And you'd refuse to fly with the airline again?
250Euro wouldn't cheer you up just a little? That would cover a pretty generous breakfast!0 -
It may take the murderous edge off the grumpiness. I wouldn't go so far as to say cheered up, not at that time of the morning and with only airport tea to keep me going. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Wow, I wouldn't like to see how you react when something really bad happens. Complete overreaction!
You are of course entitled to that opinion. I see no point in getting angry with check-in or customer relations staff since they are only following the instructions from on high.
I've over 1000 flights in the past 10 years -some long haul but mostly LoCo ones within Europe on FR and EZ, and I've never had any issues with them. All the aggro I've had has been with BA - perhaps 10 flights in 10 years, and most of them I've had problems with. I just don't trust them.
This weekends issues just re-enforced my opinion that I'd rather fly with just about anyone than BA (or Monarch) .0 -
Hi,

Many airlines open their online check in time 24 hours to departure and you can even check in from many devices even outside of the UK.
Checking in at T24 does not guarantee a passenger from getting bumped, but it certainly reduces the risk.0 -
You don't know how to use a debit card?

All credit to BA. They got you on a flight 2 hours and 15 minutes later. They gave you the entitled compensation upfront without any effort.
Most airlines you'd have had to go away and fill in a form on the website. Then chase customer services for weeks or even months to get what you are entitled to.
If you've a BA Exec Club or Avios account it might be worth a whinge for some free miles. Although they'd be useless to someone refusing to fly BA ever again.
In the great scheme of things you got a 2hr 15min delay. And for this you got compensation for more than double your flight cost. Move on with your life (and use your debit card like you would any debit card).0 -
Seems like an over reaction to me.
have had the same happen to me with KLM, I took the compo (in credit as it was bit extra) and used it for another flight with them.0 -
Compensation of €250 for a two hour delay sounds very reasonable. I would have just gone straight to the bar.
Remember you can always check in using their mobile app. I've even checked in on my Kindle before.0
