 The door to the bedroom is staying firmly shut from now on having read the horror stories above.

Spiders crawl through gaps i.e. between the skirting board and floor, under the door, so keeping your door shut won't keep the spiders out.

OP I suggest you get someone to catch your spider (use a glass and a piece off card) and rehome it - chuck it as far away from your house as possible. However another one will probably move in it's place.

  • I have two resident "pet" spiders, one in each of my car's door mirrors. One is Robert and the other is Bruce. (I am part Scottish.)

so scared of them I can't even name them. every night while riding home from work spiders seem to run across the dashboard or windshield. I have the ultrasonic pest repellent, have sprayed the car door jams with citronella spray, keep windows closed at all times!! I also kept the a/c on full blast while driving--they seem to like the warmth--thus I use the a/c....not sure why I have one every night.....always keep magazines in the car in case I need to swat one----anyone have any ideas before I really crash out of fear!!!

Havent tried it myself but on How Clean is Your House (sad I know) they put a few drops of citronella in warm water and wiped that over the walls. Apparantly it will dry fine but creepies and spiders dont like the stuff and so stay well away. x

    Citronella here we come!
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

Some people round here swear by conkers for getting rid of spiders - apparently they don't like the smell. I haven't tested this myself yet but I will as soon as they start falling off my nearest tree, and at least they are free! I've heard you can also soak them in water or oil and use that.

  • Raid Ant and Roach killer. It will also leave a residue that will deal with any subsequent spiders.
