Making Spiders Homeless

Ever since I moved in 10yrs ago, I've had a resident spider in the top corner of my conservatory. No doubt it's a different generation but however many times I spray the corner (12ft up) with insect killer he's always there with a super strong web and copious "deposits". This didn't matter so much whilst the conservatory was used as a dumping ground but now I've got new doors, new carpet and am about to paint.

I'd like to rid the space from spiders for good. Current abode is a small residence between stonework, brickwork, wooden timbers and polycarb roofing, it's very warm up there and undisturbed by cats, dogs, etc but I don't want the mess it creates from both web, flies and droppings in my upgraded conservatory.

Any ideas?

  • You would have to seal every minute gap between the brickwork , timbers and roofing with sealants, not that expensive to do, but will be a very time consuming task.
  • I'd rather have the spider there catching the flies etc.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
  • Big webs can become an eyesaw though i suppose,

Kills flies = looks horrible lol

Tiz the season i think as i woke up with a large one on my stomache just 3 days back. Also my sisters bedroom has them walking on the ceiling, setting up camp.

Why do spiders sometimes stand still until they die?

Surely its better to be off on your travels for a new place :)

    Aww...leave her alone. :(

It's mean to turf her out, especially after she's saved you swatting all those nasty flies. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • Give it a name and think of it as your pet then you'll find it hard to get rid of it.

 The door to the bedroom is staying firmly shut from now on having read the horror stories above.

Given the size and thickness of the web, this one's hefty but until now I'd never thought of it as a 'she', only 'he'. Garnet Gem, I promise you I won't be bereft when she leaves! I didn't think they did stand still until they die, but instead shed their skin like a snake and so look whole when infact it's the empty shell you find.

I don't like the thought of sealing a live spider in the gaps although I might be tempted to load up the gun! (for the sealant of course).

If you must get rid of it, catch it in something and put it outside, it'll soon find a new home...

Don't kill it though (by squashing or by spray) - its done nothing to harm you!

I have, over the past years, sprayed the area with insect killer, to no avail. There is ALWAYS a damn spider living there!

Done no harm? You haven't seen the mess it makes from the squished flies and droppings! If that gets onto my new oak worktops I won't be happy!

Insect spray wont kill a spider, unless your aiming to starve it out of flies of course.

I have two resident "pet" spiders, one in each of my car's door mirrors. One is Robert and the other is Bruce. (I am part Scottish.)
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
