Foreign car insurance claim affecting UK no claims bonus etc?

Hi,

I've just returned from Iceland after an amazing holiday.

Unfortunately I was responsible for a minor accident in our hire vehicle. I paid a handsome fee at point of hire for their 'premium' insurance, so on returning the vehicle i paid the £250 (ish) excess charge and thats that. I also took out excess insurance from a UK based firm, which i have not yet claimed from

I have 2 questions:
1) Do i need to declare the accident to my UK vehicle insurance company? I'm unsure if this will affect my no claims, future premiums etc on my own vehicle??

2) Because its abroad i wonder if it might just proverbially stay there? I.e. if i DON'T claim back the £250(ish) from my UK excess policy then I've never claimed on UK insurance therefore no issues?

You answer the questions on the form. If the question asks

"Do you have any accidents, losses, thefts, incidents or claims in the last 3 years (regardless of fault)?"

And after checking the help for this

"Please complete this section with details of all accidents, losses , thefts, incidents or claims in the last 3 years (regardless of fault). This includes incidents that have occurred while you were driving a different vehicle or while a driver was insured under your or any other policy."

The answer would be yes.

Issue is you have lied on the form.

Answer the questions asked, its a simple process.

Read your current policy to see if you must notify them of this incident.
