Hi,
Anyone know what I need to do in this situation.
Trying to tax my car but keep getting the vehicle needs an appropriate MOT certificate. I am sitting here with my MOT certificate that was issued end of January 2016 so 5 months ago.
I am trying to pay online as I want to set up a DD as it is cheaper etc. So does anyone know how I sort this issue out?
Thanks

Check on this site to see if the date is the same as your certificate.
https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status0 -
Details are the same including the expiry date for current MOT.
Will I need to phone DVLA??0 -
If the MOT database is showing it correctly then it may be a problem with their systems. Ideally that's throw some sort of useful error asking you to try later but these are DVLA systems so that may be too much to ask.
Seeing as you can't call until tomorrow anyway it'd be worth trying again first thing in the morning to see if they've sorted themselves out.0 -
Give the dvla a call tomorrow from 8 am. If the mot result has not been updated with them take the documents to the post office. They can set up d/d for you too0

obviously a blip in the dvsa incorruptible database, i would tax for 6 months at the local post office get a receipt then go for dd at renewal0

Why go for the most expensive option for taxing a vehicle ?
Because, as this post in itself bares witness - DVLA databases are NOT infallable!
If you have a choice of proving roadside that you made a payment 10 months ago, or a payment last month - here is the statement on my phone - which is easier to prove in 20 minutes before you car is seized, and you end up with £170 tow fee plus storage.....even though DVLA made an error?
Hence poeple rather pay £15 more a year - and have proof that payment is being taken, and going to the right place - than having a payment go out, and rely on hope alone.0 -

Do direct debits not appear on your bank statement then?
Mine do. Three in particular stand out:
01 Jun 2016-Direct debit DVLA-WV****H
01 Jun 2016-Direct debit DVLA-K7****R
01 Jun 2016-Direct debit DVLA-MW****Z
With the date, full registration number, and value - not exactly 'off it goes and hope'.
