Fault in 'waterfall' style bathroom tap. Water goes everywhere.

i have exactly the same taps and mine failed in the same way, completely rotted out inside.
i have both the bath and basin taps of the same type
mine were purchased in 2014 and VictoriaPlum are stating they are out of warranty so doing nothing about it.
i can see now that since 2015 they have increased the warranty to 5 years so they have obviously changed the design since we got these taps.
[i have pictures of my taps but i cant post them due to being a new user.]
i cannot see how victoriaPlumb think that a tap lasting 2 years is fit for purpose at all.0 -
Because Victoria Plumb sell cheap stuff. You don't buy a top from Primark and expect it to last as long as one from John Lewis.
Some companies price in longevity and customer service. Some don't.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

i fully understand you get what you pay for, but i also dont think its very fit for purpose for a tap to have a design which rusts an internal part within 2 years.0 -
Aye. I don't know if mine was Victoria Plumb or not but I'm sure the people we bought the house from only had the bathroom fitted a matter of months, or even weeks, before we bought it. The tap started playing up just a few weeks after we moved in. I don't know where they bought it from nor how much they paid for it, but, like deviousrich, I would have hoped any taps would last more than a year or two before parts completely disintegrate. I get that some components are built with quality, and priced to match, and some are all style over substance, but God Almighty!
Anyhow, I've not replaced the bleeder yet. It's still functional with Blu Tac plugging the screw holes. It just looks a bit naffer than before.
deviousrich, I presume VP don't sell replacement parts (filter or whatever the component is called)?0 -
i have asked them for a spare parts stock / vendor but at the moment they havent replied.
FYI i am raising a formal complaint under the sale of goods act as i dont believe two years is fit for purpose but VP are digging their heels in at the moment.
i've got both a basin and bath tap so i'll be down over £100 if i replace these which seems ludicrous0 -
Just getting my bathroom done. I loved the look of those taps for sink and bath and they would of looked fab. Instead went for a heritage range. Gosh so pleased I paid a little more, while I know that there are no guarantees I hope I will not have to replace them in 12 months. In fact just checked and 5 year guarantee. Whooo !
I am sure you will of already but have you checked ebay????Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
In fact just checked and 5 year guarante
yeah even VP now over a 5 year guarantee on these taps, but when i brought them back in 2014 it was only 1 year hence why they dont want to talk to me.
i'm sure given the 5 years they now offer they have made some changes to the design!0 -
URGENT
If you have owned this tap please contact me asap.
I bought 4, and in 23 months a large percentage of unidentified metal and chrome has washed out into my basins, bath and possibly on to my toothbrush!!!!
Check out the video on youtube.
Screw don't just fall out,.........unless the metal they were screwed into is no longer there.
I will be setting up web and facebook pages regarding this.
I am suffering from poor health, unidentified as of yet by my doctor. Does this disappearing metal have anything to do with it?0 -
Hi guys,
I had the exact same problem, the jet force was astonishing. My friend who installed the same tap from Victoria Plumbing at the same time, has not had this problem though he lives on the same road. I suspect that is because he uses Cillitbang descaler, weekly.
Anyway, I had not descaled for a year and a half (since I bought it). I solved it by buying Kilrock limescale remover gel from Homebase. It's pretty heavy duty and according to the label, not to be used every week...good, given it costs 6 quid or so
I applied the gel on using the brush that comes ready attached to the lid, I had also made sure i brushed thoroughly underneath the grill to get into the thin slot that i presume water is supposed to flow evenly out of. Then adapting somebody elses idea on this thread, covered with cling film to keep it pressed against the grill.
I had originally tried the above with Cillitbang for 24hrs, but that after 2x 24hr attempts did not work. With this gel, it did, but it did take 24hrs.
In fact, although it is now working just fine, i've applied it one more time pushing the gel into the grill/tap unit as far as possible. I'll remove the clingfilm tomorrow...but as I said, it definitely worked.
I was not looking forward to fitting a new tap

PS, there is no use by date on the gel that i could see, and given how little of it i used to use, this should last me years, even though its strength 'may' (I dont know) decrease over time.0 -
Hi guys, same problem, waterfall tap shooting water over the edge of the sink. However, I had a look to see what cleaning products I had. Found some dishwasher cleaner that dissolves limescale. I used some Dax hair wax (honestly as I had nothing else) and made a little dam across the tap. Pour0
