I have connected a Galaxy S6 to my pc via a USB cable and the phone is there with the little arrow on the left showing it contains folders. But I cannot open it to view them. It just flashes back at me and nothing appears. I have tried changing cables and ports but still same problem. Not had this before.
Any ideas?

The phone will need to be unlocked - enter your pin/password/etc. Connect the USB now. Does it work on your computer now? If not is there a notification on the phone about what to do with the USB connection? If so act on it and it should all work.0

Phone is not locked. PC sees phone but will not see content or open it.0

What options do you have in your phone for USB connection?
In my Android I have "USB storage" and "Media Device (MTP)" among others, and for some reason only the latter works for seeing the content on the PC.
The default option is "Charge only".0 -
Does seem to be an issue with what sort of device it thinks it has connected and whether or not USB debugging is activated. Still getting to the bottom of it. Will report back.0

Once you unlock the phone, a message should come up asking you to deny or allow an mtp connection? Bit annoying that I have to do this every time, but I just have a generic cable I bought off eBay and it works fine on my s6
