OH has a Galaxy S6 - contract started in November 2015. In March 2016 the screen packed up but he was able to use Smartswitch to retrieve the data by plugging it into his usb port.
The screen on the replacement phone has now packed up. The phone is still working (on light flashing etc) but this time when he plugged it into his pc via the USB port, Smartswitch sent an error message saying the usb port was locked and had to be unlocked before he could use it.
He spoke to EE who recommended using Kies to back up his data. This gave an error message "Usb debugging needs to be activated your phone"
So there are three questions:
1) does smartswitch keep a copy of the data your transfer (if so the data from when he used it in March will still be there)
2) is there new additional security on the S6 phones that means the USB port has to be "unlocked" in some way before the phone's data can be viewed on a pc using a usb cable (this was not the case when he used smartswithc in March)
3) anyone else having problems with the screens on the S6 (on both occasions the screen failed after it had been minding its own business recharging?)

"Usb debugging needs to be activated your phone"
Activate it then.- Open Settings> About> Software Information> More.
- Then tap “Build number” seven times to enable Developer options. ...
- Go back to Settings menu and now you'll be able to see “Developer options” there.
- Tap it and turn on USB Debugging from the menu on the next screen.
