I know Cisco001 thinks, if not B150 chipset, then go for Z170 over H170, I'm interested if anyone else has any thoughts.
http://www.ukgamingcomputers.co.uk/h170-and-z170-difference-a-70.html
I personally think if you are not overclocking or using dual GPU cards then I don't see the point to a z series. You're spot on about the Intel IGPs, I'm favouring the Gigabyte GA-H170-HD3 board, which I has Intel HD530 graphics
PS, the IGP is on the CPU die and not the mobo, keep up

The i5-6500 or I5-6400 would be my choice too, I'd prefer 4 real cores for VMs .Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

That's what comes of trying to multi task, replying to this thread and getting quotes for buildings/contents insurance. :rotfl:
I think you can see what was going on by the fact there is a bit missing from the sentence.
Thanks, I'd already seen that link, or similar, the B150 would probably be ok, but I do prefer the H170 for the extra connectivity options.
I've scrimped in the past and regretted it.
Motherboards are always tricky and I've put various different options into pcpartpicker, it still seems to point to the Gigabyte GA-H170 HD3.
So unless anyone screams "No", or has a better option, it's the one I'm going for.
Be careful, the is also a similarly named DDR3 board.
I like Asus, but the ones in my price range don't seem to have pci slots.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Keep option open for overclocking for future upgrade/ resell?
It is only a difference of £6 between that Gigabyte H170 and MSI Z170.
It would be up to OP to decide what he want.0 -

My guess is Spud will go for the H170 and spend the £6 on a bottle of plonk

Saw these RAM on HUKD, I suggest you grab the RAM first no matter which mobo you go. They are good price

Some unpleasant viruses doing the rounds, daughter was off for 3 days last week.
Deepest sympathy as I've had an inner ear infection (bacterial) causing acute labyrinthitis, which is possibly what you've had but viral. Were you prescribed prochlorperazine for it ? I took one and it made me feel even weirder so I didn't take any more.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

Thanks.
My GP had no idea as to the cause, he thought possibly viral.
Only symptoms were, increased tinnitus in one ear, increased sensitivity to sound and light, and inability to stand.
I'm now on motion sickness tablets and much improved. :T
I can handle the pc screen and tv screen for short periods.
I've ordered the Ballistix Elite ram from Amazon, because that was too good to miss.
Having chosen the faster 2666 ram it made sense to go for the Z170 chipset in the MSI board, the H170 chipset has a maximum of 2133.
I've read as many reviews as I've been able, and while the MSI board has been good, there have been several instances of boards doa, ram slots not working and general poor build quality.
I realise you can find anything to back your argument, but the same complaints didn't seem as common with the Gigabyte board.
Not everyone likes Flubit, but they've done me well in the past.
The i5-6500 has jumped up in price so I've put in a demand to Flubit along with demands for the MSI and Gigabyte boards.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
