Car Insurance Wants Proof of Address

Hi guys,


I brought out car insurance and after a few weeks they ask for proof of address. I'm currently living at my cousins due to my job is closer there and I currently have no bank or bill connected with my cousins house.

Should I give my cousins bank and utility bill to my insurance?

They are asking where you live, not where your cousins live.

Only your insurers can tell you what is acceptable to them.

But I haven't moved my bank address to my cousins house.

What about HMRC, mobile provider, V5, driving licence etc...

Out of interest, did you try quotes at different addresses?

All those are on my old address.

Seriously, get this sorted. You will end up with a cancelled policy otherwise. If you don't live there any more, tell them.

You've been there at least a few weeks so plenty of time to get your V5 and licence changed.

Shall I change all my bank and utility bill to my name?

You need to change your bank and your bills to your new address.

Don't put your cousins utility bills in your name.

You'll need to put your name on council tax there - car insurer should then accept the council tax bill as proof.

Hopefully your bank details are already in your name. If you are living at your cousins, do you have any utility bills?
