Looking for advice

Options
I am looking to upgrade my phone as I am coming to the end of my contract with 3. I found a deal online for a a Galaxy S7 Edge still on 3 with 8Gb of data, unlimited minutes/texts for 40 pounds a month. This is a lot cheaper than any upgrade offered by 3. However when I phoned 3 to ask about moving my old number to a new phone I was told by them that they would not honour this price and after a few months it would go up to what they normally charge (over 50 pounds). Can they do this and if they can what is the point of any 3rd party reseller? I am very confused.

All you need to do is ask three for PAC

Grab a SIM from other company like Gffgaff/ Tesco/ EE, etc and transfer existing number over.

Use it for few days after transfer, then request PAC code again.

sign up for the £40 SIM deal and transfer number back to 3.

Edit: do you actually use 8GB of data?

Do you really want to replace your phone using a 24 month purchase plan? Have you considered going SIM only and using your existing phone? It gives flexibility and often better value.

Three currently have half price for 6 month SIM deals (requires you to sign up for 12 months though)...

No, they can't, and they are notorious for telling lies.

However, they won't 'move' the number, and the only way to do this is in two steps as per the post above.
