Chargeback Help please

I recently used Paypal to buy something from someone. It was £308 and I used my credit card, via paypal to make the purchase.
It was for a laser cutting machine, for my woodcraft business.

Before buying, I corresponded for a while by email and was promised 30 days money back guarantee, full returns accepted, 3 year warranty and Paypal Protection.

The item exploded 3 weeks after receiving it. It has a laser bulb, and this is what blew, for no reason other than faulty wiring or something like that.
The seller was only interested in selling me a new bulb for a £100 price tag. I was shocked at this and said that not only am I not qualified to solder on a new laser bulb, but god only knows what else can explode. I requested to use one of the many promised made to me, the 30 day money back guarantee. This was refused point blank, I mentioned the 3 year warranty, this was refused. I then opened a paypal dispute.
Paypal ruled in HIS favour. I lost, due to the fact that the machine had been used. They said that any money back promises are between me and him.

So I have gone to my MasterCard company, MBNA and they said we can try a 15 day Tender Return.. I reach out again, by email, asking to return the item, then forward all messages to them as evidence. Again, no reply from the seller.
The 15 day expired today, and wonderfully they have refunded me the £308.....BUT he has 45 days to dispute it, and from what I can see on the info I have sourced, he stands a damn good chance of having the money reversed from my card, back into his account.
My question here, if anyone can help, is what are his chances?
I am beyond nervous, I have been through hell with him, Paypal and now this awful 45 day wait.

Please, any help, or advice is massively appreciated thank you.

I was also wondering where the supplier was based. If UK there is loads of consumer protection.

It's funny you should say that as he claimed to ship the product from Uk, when I received it, it was sent domestically from Portsmouth, but as the problem has happened, and I have done more digging, I think the main man I am dealing with is in China. He basically has distribution warehouses in the Uk for his products, so not sure where the law lies with that kind of selling.
He sold it to me as "Uk based" and although I knew it was made in China, he promised it was EU regulated, carried the CE mark (Which now, which hindsight looks fake) and promised he was based in UK.

Sorry for the muddy reply, just trying to give you all the info I have.
    Thanks, Susie

How can someone on a forum confirm the success or failure of a chargeback?

Even if it doesn't work, you can always raise a small claims action (or take the hit and be more careful in future)

Thanks, I thought I was being careful, I passed many emails, and did checks, ensured I had Paypal Protection, used my credit card etc....
I didn't think in a million years that Paypal would rule in his favour, especially as I have since found out on a woodcraft laser forum, that a good handful of people have raised Paypal disputes against the same man.

The problem that the OP may face in any case is that the purchase has been made as a business, not a consumer, so some of the legislation will not apply. She is much more bound by the contractual agreement made with the seller.

Ah, I did not realise that the purchase had been made as a business. That makes a difference and I see that it is very possible that the supplier is outside the UK - worse still. It might be an expensive lesson learned - always check out an online supplier if you don't know them to be genuine.

Hi, I appreciate the comments. I was hoping for a more specific opinion on the seller disputing a chargeback.
I already have had an expensive lesson, there is only so many checks you can make on someone, and so many protection provisions you can make (eg Paypal protection, Section 75 etc...)
I did my best, this guy is a fraudster, pure and simple.
I spoke to Paypal and their exact words to me were "He is clearly someone who knows how to play the system, so will always win"
So really, what hope did I have for protection if Paypal knowingly let people like him win.....
I am not a registered business user on Paypal, so it was not officially bought for my business. I am a sole trader, and bought it through my personal email, to my home address, so it's not strictly speaking, a business purchase.

It very clearly is a business purchase. Whether Paypal or the seller would find out is another matter, but don't lie to us about it.

    Why so rude??
I am not lying, I am explaining all the details of the transaction, so I can try to get the best help.
You mentioned that it was a business transaction, so I was merely saying how I made the purchase, and what the status of my Paypal account was.
I have not been through this before. I have run my business for 5 years, and would like to think that I am a savvy person, so the fact that I am asking for input specifically on the chargeback process just means that I am experiencing a new problem within my business.

I am going through enough at the moment, I would be grateful for less rude replies.
I haven't lied, I have actually been as honest and descriptive as I can, so if you feel offended by my last comment, then please just kindly don't respond again.
