I'm not sure, but I think that ClamAV is mostly intended for detecting Windows viruses on GNU/Linux mail servers.
I use it as such on our primary and secondary MXs, with the sanesecurity databases.

It doesn't appear to be for desktops, but I don't have desktop linux machines, only servers.

This is all getting some way from the OP's question, and they may not be running linux anyway as the error seems to come from Chrome, which is cross platform.

    I'd install Windows 10

Don't you think the OP has enough problems already?

At least the under-bridge-dweller didn't suggest Linux Mint this time. ;)

Please read the thread before commenting!

The OP has stated that the OS is Zorin but she has obviously never learnt how to use Zorin.

She states that she has downloaded Firefox when Firefox is actually the default browser.

Zorin has a built in Web Browser Manager which makes installing and uninstalling web browsers simple and quick. see here

She has been instructed how to simply disable WebRTC but states that "It's impossible to disable webRTC in Chrome" in post #12.

It is not possible to help those who panic over something as simple as this and then talk about getting another computer!

Thank you once again, to everyone who is trying to guide my attempts to resolve my IT problem.

I apologise to those who lost patience with me; my short-comings in understanding this subject brought on an unexpected tsunami of grief yesterday - IT was one of my husband's contributions to our relationship.

Rubidium - two of the links further up the thread led to pages which state that WebRTC cannot be disabled in Chrome.
..I'll try going through the suggestions again today thanks to your certainty that it is possible.

esuhl and henm2 - you give me hope!

I'm glad the consensus is that I don't need a new laptop. :T

    Hi

I still favour the A/V and rkhunter to avoid any re-infection.

AND that webrtc is a real problem for many people, lots of forums reporting grief over it.

So Zorin is based on Ubuntu and as such some of the Ubuntu stuff may well be relevant. Others have found it so.

With a reset password you can create a new user as root (sudo) adduser and this user should not inherit any of your existing problems.

BUT first as root you may want to simply remove chrome...

There is not a setting for WebRTC that can be enabled or disabled in a menu option in Chrome but if you follow the instructions in post #11 you can certainly disable WebRTC very easily and this should solve your immediate problem.

Definitely no new computer required to solve this!

I did wonder about suggesting simply reinstalling chrome to clear it. But the per-user config is probably stored in home directory (~/.chrome or ~/.config/chrome or something). So just deleting that should effectively reset chrome - it will probably recreate it on first use.

But that would also trash bookmarks etc. I'm sure there would be a way to save and restore them though.

Yes. Use the Bookmark Manager and Export the bookmarks to an HTML file. Save that somewhere then when ready Import again (using Bookmark Manager) from the saved HTML file. :)

Just create a different profile in Chrome and test with that. A new profile will use a new, clean profile directory. Effectively the same as your suggestion but possibly easier:
    1. Sign in to Chrome.
    2. In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the button for the current user. It may show that person's name, email or an icon like this ICz0opu9QvFlMWd3uF6YUYcyw4s7LSPiyFoMDOurFzMHdpu2JZk9H6Dyg0WtlApyXdWzBzVb=w18-h18.
    3. Click Switch Person.
    4. At the bottom of the window, click Add Person. If the new person signs in to Chrome with a Google account, he or she will see synced bookmarks, apps, extensions and other browsing data on the computer and will be able to sync any future changes.
