    Which do you prefer?

    Why are you asking?
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

    Good choice:
    Money laundering[edit]
A 2010 report by the Wall Street Journal described how Credit Suisse, Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group, and other banks were involved in helping the Alavi Foundation, Bank Melli, the Government of Iran, and others circumvent US laws banning financial transactions with certain states. They did this by stripping information out of wire transfers, thereby concealing the source of funds. Lloyds Banking Group settled with the US government for US$350 million. The US government's Manhattan District Attorney's Office was involved, although the case was merged with one at the federal US Department of Justice. [82]

I would have to say Barclays, they have a very good app and are always the first (most of the time) with new stuff.

They treat you very well in branch.

I would not touch Lloyds, they own Halifax and they are one of the worst banks going, from personal experience. I tried to open an account with them, Lloyds, they could not even get that right.

I left Barclays because they closed my local branch.

    A comparison,

You go into Barclays, How are you Mr XXX, how can I help you.

You go into Halifax, Stone face..............

I know its a small thing, but it really P's me off if they are rude. Considering this is three Halifax branches, it can't be a one off.

Lloyds banking group staff always seem stressed or miserable.

I had trouble with Lloyds Bank signing up too! I had to take ID into branch, I did and he scanned and sent them off, and I kept repeatedly getting text messages for weeks and months telling me I needed to do it again and again, before I got another text saying I was too late to do so Eventually they signed me up in branch with no problems..

It was a pain though so I get where you're coming from! Although I've just opened a Halifax account without any trouble, and the staff usually do seem really polite and more helpful than in Lloyds.

Lloyds Bank is a paradise compared to HSBC..now that is a joke of a bank

Halifax staff are like car salesman, sell sell sell, once sold, the mask comes off.

I am banking with HSBC, not had any problems so far, one branch staff member on front looked miserable, but one off so far.

The current Lloyds ad campaign is a bit silly as well. Like the bank would be "with you" if you lost your job and could not pay off a load. Would they hell!!!

Alternatively the US position on their interpretation of money laundering could also be criticised.

They have taken action against banks for dealing with people they don't like, where the transaction hasn't gone anywhere near the states.

The banks pay up because it's cheaper than not being allowed to operate in New York, which is the other option.

Barclays are more customer oriented. Friendlier and more flexible. Generally more modern and quicker.

Lloyds Club has good interest rate. If you can't qualify for Club, no point going with Lloyds.

Lloyds have let me down when I needed them to do some very basic things as a loyal customer of over 10 years. If Club was withdrawn or interest reduced I would switch away.

Lloyds as they pay interest on my savings.

What's with the various threads about banks, go out onto the high street and conduct your own public research.

Lloyds as their rates on current accounts and savings accounts are better than anything available from Barclays.

at the same time, Barclays do offer offsetting and the free cups of tea are a nice little perk.

so perhaps the real answer ought to be 'both'?
