Hi MSE,

Seeing MSE Sky's latest unlimited broadband we are wondering will we need fibre as 5.5mbps seems quite slow (ex-Virgin Media 110mbps).

We are planning to use the internet between 2 adults and will only be used for the following:
-Heavy phone browsers
-Kodi Streaming
-Xbox Live

The exchange is 1329m away.

you might want to delete that and hide your address before reposting... or just post the results and exclude your address...

Yes. For what you will be using it for that would be way too low. You will definitely need a higher speed. BT are offering the cheapest fibre packages atm, but again for what you will be using it for you'll need an unlimited package as well.

Dependant upon the source i would expect Kodi streams to buffer a lot . Unless you are streaming your own content that is .Videos on a server may be OK but not live sources .

Real debrid sorts that out. 1080p, 5.1 content no issues at all.

    To the OP.

BT Infinity 1 is likely your best option. You'll get the full connection speed of 55meg (52-53 on speedtests). Remember to order through top cashback. Your first year will be almost free ;)

It isn't really "fibre" (neither is Virgin's) but you'll get a BIG benefit from VDSL (also known as FTTC, Fibre To The Cabinet) rather than ADSL (where the fibre bit only goes as far as the exchange, almost a mile away) - almost ten times the speed for downloading, and an even bigger difference for sending stuff the other way.
