cyclists turned right when i overtook

I have no problem with people saying that the evidence is a problem
I have no problem with people saying its 50/50
I however have a big problem with people saying that i am 100% at fault when i clearly described an instance of someone pulling out in front of my path AFTER I had set out on that path without warning.
So when you asked if you'd be held at fault, for insurance purposes yes. 50/50 you'll have an at fault claim to declare and the cyclist will get a pay out.
He endeth the thread. :beer:0 -
It sounds like you are the one who needs to carefully read posts
As i have already explained
I OBSERVED then for a PERIOD OF TIME so i knew he was not overtaking
and
he DID NOT overtake.
The sort of behaviour i described is in fact quite common i see it all the time..
I would think it odd for one cyclist to be hovering behind and to the right of another and not actually overtaking or dropping in behind... But that may be because I live in London and most cyclists in my experience would overtake another or stay in line astern if they were at the same speed. So how about a clue as to what sort of road this is - residential (presumably; since a link to it would tell everyone where you live...) but is it urban, suburban, rural village? Straight enough for you to see that it was safe to cross the centre line and overtake two cyclist of course.I need to think of something new here...0 -

I previously stated the width (measured on google earth) cant remember this off the top of my head but its in the thread
It is a arterial road through a large village
it has houses on one side and a field on the other
so i would describe it as a wide for its location0 -
Why not just post a link to the location on google maps? No one is going to be able to ascertain where you live from it. For all we know, you could live on the street itself or 50 miles away yet planning to drive that way every day on a commute. I cannot see how providing a streetview link in any way compromises your anonymity any more than the description you've already provided does, but would go a long way towards aiding people's understanding of the circumstances.
You've been absolutely resolute in your self-defence, bringing in all sorts of extra detail when you believe it adds weight to your case, yet you've remained curiously silent on providing something that would probably tell us a lot more than any number of words. What's the real reason for that? It appears that it's because it wouldn't back your version of events.0 -
I agreed it was the cyclists fault based on the very limited information you fed us at the start of the thread. Now i found this, i'd say the accident was mostly your own fault.First of all the road in question is 6m wide.
There were actually 2 cyclists cycling almost 2 abreast
The one on the right is the one which pulled out
The cyclist i hit was actually in the middle of the lane the whole time and had been for the whole time i could see him.
So just to clarify the cyclist you hit had been was in the middle of a 6m road. This would leave approx 3 meters (maybe less depending on handlebar width to get past)
You should give them as much space as possible when passing and if ample space isn't available you shouldn't pass.
It sounds the were inconsiderate by cycling 2 abreast on such a narrow road, but that doesn't excuse close or unsafe overtaking. Perhaps a toot on the horn would have made them aware you were there, so they could drop to single file then you could have overtook safely. That's what i do when i encounter pedestrians on cycle routes and there's not enough room to pass safely.
You seem a very angry fellow. I imagine you were frustrated being stuck behind them, made an unwise overtake, cyclist wouldn't expect an overtake in such a tight space and went to turn right and you hit each other.
Now you're more annoyed those pesky cyclists might claim on your insurance. All your base are belong to us.0 -

No
He was in the middle of the LANE
that is 1/4 of the way across the roadRetrogamer wrote: »You should give them as much space as possible when passing and if ample space isn't available you shouldn't pass.
with him in the middle of the lane that would be at least half a lane between him and the left hand side of my car.Retrogamer wrote: »It sounds the were inconsiderate by cycling 2 abreast on such a narrow road, but that doesn't excuse close or unsafe overtaking. I am angry at the fact that I can start a SAFE overtake and someone else can turn in front of my at the critical moment without warning or looking and some people form the opinion that i was somehow to blame.0 -
