Rogue Events - Conventions

I recently attended a convention and subisquently purchased tickets for the same convention next year. When I got home I found out that I want able to attend the event as my personal circumstances changed very quickly and unexpectantly meaning i could no longer attend next year.
I reviewed their website and found that they had an uncondtional cooling off peiod that covered services - which they have conventions listed under so I contacted them within the 14 day time frame to cancel. Afer waiting 26 days for a response, I have been advised by them that at cannot cancel, event though they have still not confirmed my tickets, they are stating that the cooling off period does not apply to ticketed events - even through conventions is listed under services. I have responded and advised them of my sitiation and I am awaiting a reply - althought i doubt anything will change - does anyone have any similar experience or advise ? as i find there web page to be contradicting itself.
I have also checked the consumer contracts info and there is nothing listed about "ticket events / conventions" in exceptions.
I would be very grateful for further info
Thanks

Companies are able to offer better terms than your statutory entitlement, and it would be useful to know if that's the case here.
Assuming it was a UK company, there maybe legislation that may help you.
If this sale was a 'distance sale' or an 'off premises' sale, then generally speaking there may be a 14 day 'cooling off' period.
There are exceptions to this rule though.
Firstly, it only applies to consumer purchases. Were you acting as a consumer when signing up for this convention, or is it a business convention?
Secondly, if it is a leisure activity, then if it is for a particular date it may not be possible to cancel the contract without cost.
I would suggest that this discussion would be better placed on the Consumer Rights Board. Perhaps you should get a board guide to move this thread there.
Edited to add: Is this the website: rogueevent.co.uk?
If so, their T&Cs seem pretty clear.
Here is just a couple of lines from them:4. Strictly no refunds will be given for any of our events unless the event is cancelled.
5. A guest canceling is not a reason for a refund. If you don’t agree with this point PLEASE DO NOT continue with your order. We can not stress this enough NO REFUNDS!
You say you have "checked the consumer contracts info and there is nothing listed about "ticket events / conventions" in exceptions".
Was that MSE's Consumer Rights guide you looked at?
If so, perhaps you missed this bit:What ISN'T covered?
There are quite a few exceptions, but they are usually in niche areas.
. Fresh food and flowers
. Personalised or perishable goods
. Accommodation/transport/leisure services purchased for a particular timeframe
. Newspapers and magazines (unless they are part of a subscription)
. Sealed audio, video or computer software that has been opened
. etc, etc.0 -
The reference to guests refers to the actores etc attending the conventions. However, if you read the ticekting FAQ it does explain that the cooling off period relates to goods (e.g. DVDs) not to services (tickets)Customers can’t cancel if the order is for:
Ticketed Events
Accommodation
Transport
Pre booked catering
Tickets for Lounge, Photo Studio, Autographs or Tours with the actors appearing at an event unless the actor fails to appear
Pre Signed Products such as autograph photos, books etc.
Digital downloads
So I am afraid that it does look as though you are not entitled to a refund. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
