Let's face it, he is never going to be in a position to do anything about it.

    Amen to that.

    Personally I agree with Silvertabby
I'm sick of all the whinges about the increase in State pension age and so-called 'losses'

While there will be losers, there are going to be a good proportion of women who would have had the lower 'old' SP for life, and who, although losing afew years of payments will now qualify for a higher weekly payment for the whole of their remainig years.

And yes, I am affected by the SPA increase, and yes it hit me twice.
I think it had to be done, although the second hit felt unfair - I would have preferred to have one larger increase in SPA and been done with it.

I'm a newcomer to these boards and haven't read all of this thread, but I'm going to stick my neck out and say that, as a 60 year old female, I'm sick of all the whinges about the increase in State pension age and so-called 'losses' The increases were well publicised at the time - I know this for a fact as my very poorly mum had a right chew on about the increase in my and my sister's State pension ages not long before she died at the end of 1995. She certainly didn't read any government white papers on the issue - just the normal tabloid press. Yes, I have sympathy with those of us who have had our State pension ages subsequently increased from 65 to 66, but that's life. In hindsight, the equalisation of State pension ages should have been part of the 1975 Sex Equality Act - an increase of 1 year per decade wef 1990 would have been do-able.

Well...this is interesting. A 'newcomer' who is already giving pensions advice (on other threads) and who clearly remembers his/her poor dying mother's concerns in 1995 about her childrens' state pension age changes. I think you may be omitting to mention that you yourself probably worked in the pensions industry and so would doubtless have raised the issue to your family in the first place!

No matter...most people on these forums (myself included ;)) are not necessarily all that we seem and I do agree with your suggestion of a far more gradual equalisation of state pension age.

It seems ironic, with the publishing today of the Institute for Fiscal Studies research finding, that there is still an 18% gender pay gap for women, which rises to 33% 12 years after having her first child. We have been pilloried for not saving enough, 'breezing through life', being profligate... and now the truth.

    https://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/aug/23/gender-pay-gap-average-18-per-cent-less-uk-women

Equalise (but more importantly, then rapidly acccelerate) womens' state pension age but ignore the endemic inequality which still prevails....

Not altogether 'a level playing field' yet then?

I am indeed a newcomer to these boards. as can be seen by my small number of posts. Yes, I have worked in the pensions industry (as a LGPS administrator) but only since 2000. Back in 1995 I was in the Armed Forces, with little or no interest in the State pension as I had other things on my mind!

But you have dared voice your opinion that WASPE are misguided in their view of what information was actually made available so are a traitor to your sex and should be ostracised. ;)

We all know what information was made available at the time Molerat (not enough) but at least Silvertabby has been upfront and honest here and admitted that she/he had little or no interest in the state pension as she/he had other things on her/his mind.

We are continually told we should have known - it seems that Silvertabby's mum knew back in 1995 but that maybe Silvertabby her/himself may not have done, were it not for her/his mum's concerns.

I'm not a Waspi (or even Waspe) btw so don't do ostracising.

Don't be too sure on that one. Ros is a campaigner and may well return, invigorated, to the fight.

I think the more important and worrying thing here is that the government are ignoring and deliberately stonewalling a cohort of 1950's born women who have some genuine grievances.

In my opinion Waspi now need to be more realistic with their aims - stop talking about 'compensation' and address the injustice of the 2011 Act.

I think it is too late for that, their reputation is tarnished & I think any new support may be difficult to find in view of their previous stance on those affected by the 2011 Act.

Huge amounts of information has been made available regards the single tier pension but still many claim to be ignorant. As it happens I believe them, but I also place the blame for said ignorance on those who are ignorant.

Hmmm, one wonders how your average WASPE would fair on a basic test regards the new rules? I'm guessing at "crash and burn".
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.
