I can see a lot of thanks in support of condemning Pennylane's post, but I just want to say I find it a touch harsh.
Pennylane was simply posting her thanks in recognition of Jo Cox's work for a cause that Pennylane supports. It isn't a cause I support, but In the interests of "fair play" I just feel that Pennylane was simply innocently paying homage to Jo.

But it was the cause that the OP happens to feel strongly about. What is wrong with that? I always thank people for doing things for me, and less often include all the things they have done for others.
And about the objection.
It is easy to post harshly, we are all anonymous. It is human nature to be less inhibited when you are anonymous. Posting harshly can become what feels like community bullying if you are on the wrong end of it. And that is in none of our interests. It discourages people from posting.
If we simply observed a simple maxim of giving people the benefit of the doubt and resisting something we all do and that is posting in haste then every single one of us would benefit.
Pennylane was simply thanking Jo Cox for supporting a cause that happened to be important to her and that is a good thing to do not a bad thing to do.

But it's a thread about Pensions and it was something that Jo Cox really cared about. Were there a thread about refugees or local community projects then I would do the same there and thank her just the same.1 -
It's not the article I have an issue with.
If you cannot see the difference between a journalist writing an article about the work that she did and a WASPI supporter coming onto a forum to promote the WASPI campaign using the article , then that says more about you than me.
I haven't seen Syrian refugees, the RVS etc posting on social media trying to promote their cause over the last 24 hours. I have, however, seen many posts and tweets from WASPI supporters doing exactly that.
This is neither the time nor the place.
I wasn't trying to promote the WASPI campaign. I couldn't have made it clearer that I was thanking her for supporting the cause.0 -

Pennylane, I'd give up if I were you.
Perhaps you are being criticised by posters who do not agree with Waspi rather than the content of your post.
It would be ironic if that were so wouldn't it? Accusing you of using Jo Cox to promote Waspi when in fact your criticisers are falsely accusing you of doing so for their criticism of Waspi..... if you get my drift. .....
Anyway this is one you will not win, so don't try.

Well there is a long thread about her in Discussion Arms - probably would have been more appropriate.
What would be even more appropriate would be to post a message on this Book of Condolence. That way you are paying tribute to Jo Cox and giving support to her family.

My post was solely related to the timing and place of this "support". I did not think it appropriate to highlight a campaign on the back of a horrific murder less than 48 hours later. As I've suggested above there were better ways to show support.
Also rather ironic to read this post from you;I was somewhat saddened to read in this morning's times that Stephen Kinnock, a junior member of the well known Kinncok EU gravy train dynasty invoked Jo Cox's memory in pursuit of the reaminers cause. Shameful.
These were his comments which were in an article ostensibly about Jo which I find shamefully opportunist and should be condemned by both the remain and exit side.0 -
Re the article someone mentioned about someone losing £35k because of the rise in State Pension age:
They haven't lost anything because they are not entitled to it.
Same as if my numbers came up on the lottery, but that week I hadn't bought a ticket, even though I might have used those same numbers last week.
It has been properly publicised. I knew about it. The more recent change has happened quicker than originally planned, that's all.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
