Is this a legitimate claim? I don't think so.....

Sorry if this particular aspect has already been covered elsewhere, the headings/threads in this area are multiple.....

Nearly a week ago, our homeward flights Germany via Amsterdam to UK regional airport were delayed then cancelled due to massive storms in that area. The airline put us up at an airport hotel overnight and paid for one plate of hot food and one non-alcohol drink. Next day we returned to the airport where our flight to Amsterdam was further delayed, we missed our connection to UK and were further delayed, arriving home 36 hours later than scheduled. One suitcase did not arrive.

A couple of days later I phoned our travel insurers to ask for advice about a potential claim for the missing suitcase, but to my surprise the (helpful) agent started with the procedure for a claim for Delayed Departure. He calculated that we are due £100. Then he moved on to the missing suitcase, a very detailed phone call which took one hour. (Yes I mentioned the storms.)

Two days later the airline returned the suitcase, intact.

I am now wondering if it's worth my time and energy, potentially scanning and emailing dozens of pieces of paper-proof that our departure was delayed, for the £100 he said. Since all this was caused by storms, there is no claim to be had, surely? The airline did what they had to: put us up etcetera. Since my very conservative estimate of the cost of the suitcase contents is over £1,000, and we have the suitcase back, is it really worth my time and energy in pursuing this (alleged) £100?

Also, if I do continue with the claim (paperwork due to arrive tomorrow), wouldn't one claim on that policy count against me in the future? The policy has about 10 months to run and we have long haul trips already booked later this year.

    The headings / threads are multiple because new posters don't read the top pinned post titled "Flight Delay Compensation Important Info - Please check before posting" or the "before your first post, read this" threads, which would direct them to search for the relevant airline thread to post under.

    April 2016 - successfully claimed €1600 from Thomas Cook for 6 hour delay in August 2015
    Old debt passed to collection agency? Issue CCA request & possibly have debt rendered unenforceable. Feb 2021 - £42 of old debt legally written off & cost £1 per account.

    probably best posting on the Insurance board as this is related to an insurance policy claim and the effects rather than a compensation claim against the airline

    Very simply you are claiming under 'delay' rather than 'lost baggage', most insurance policies begin paying out after 12 hours and a further sum every 12 hours thereafter. You appear to be entitled to claim and no, it won't affect any claim in the future. There is no reason you should not claim.

    Lets break this down. The storms were in Germany. Did it affect a flight coming in to pick you up? or directly affected your flight waiting to take off?. The following day your flight from Germany to Amsterdam was delayed, Did you get into Amsterdam more than 3 hours after your scheduled arrival time?
