The cheque was part of a disputed insurance claim and rather the discuss the issue they just sent me a cheque and told me to do one I had hopped to take them to court but given up on that idea owing to cost and the fact that I no longer expect justice in a court room.

You dont have to. I used my then GFs account to secure my wages, paid courtesy via the bank through to the employment agency I was with at the time.

Ah well working for an agency is a rather different thing to working for a bank, while they may have run some checks before accepting you they presumably didn't care that you didn't have an account at the time. I'm reasonably confident that if you had applied for a job with the bank you wouldn't have been offered it.

Won't one of those cheque cashing/pawn shops cash it for you?

I think the OP wants all the value of the cheque, good luck with that in the circumstances!

Just to finish I don't think anyone should have to pay for the privilege of being paid money they are owed. I think the system as it stands is extremely moral and biased in favor of the Bank's after all how is it the a cheque cashing company can cash my cheque and can't. But once again thanks for your consideration.
