Can anyone tell me if there's a way to cash a cheque if you haven't got a bank account and you don't want to use a loan shark. I understood cheque's were promissory notes so can I just take it to the bank that issued it.

Why don't you have an account ?
Can you not ask the chequestrian issuer to give you cash ?0 -
They may well be promissory notes but they will have 2 lines on them making them payable to the account payee only.0

In order to secure an account, I first had to get a household bill in my name just to prove my address (was a water bill), I also had to apply for a Birth certificate, in order to get a passport, to prove who I was in order to satisfy the bank.
Ironically I could not even get an account from the very bank I was working for at the time.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I could not get a bank account until I was at least 30. I had no relevant I.D., no passport, driving licence or bills in my name.

If your financial status was so dubious that they wouldn't let you open an account I am very surprised that they felt able to let you work there - in fact, I'm so surprised that I don't believe it.0 -
Go try. Just leave your usual kit in the car.
My 17 year old has no driving license, no passport & no utilities bills. To apply for his disabled bus pass we had to open a bank account (as evidence of address) & that took me attending an hour long (selling) interview to act as sponsor to permit him to have an account.
So I entirely reckon some banks can be wildly awkward.0 -
How were the bank you were working for paying you ?0

Needless to say, it took me long enough to get my own account due to a complete lack of relevant I.D. Back then I didn't have a driving licence OR passport, nor any utility bills that could prove my residence.
I eventually applied to pay the water bill, thus securing my address, applied for my Birth Certificate in order to attain a passport (banks would not take a Birth certificate as proof when opening an a\c).
Safe to say I have had an account for over a decade now so am pretty covered for I.D, but still it was an uphill struggle to get an account.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I understand you not believing the person who worked for the bank but what you have to realize is zero credit history is different to negative credit history I lost the offer of two apprenticeships because my credit history got intertwined with some one else s negative credit history. I even had someone else s council tax bill taken from my unemployment benefit not once but twice unfortunately people are stupid and can't do there jobs properly. It's not making the mistakes that's the problem but there refusal to accept.0
