Good thing I never activated the free BT Sports!

Cancel it anyway. One can never be too careful with providers.

I went to renew with BT tonight but there's an open order on my account, which the renewal department couldn't close. I said I'd ring back tomorrow morning to get it closed and then raise a new order.

I had a great chat with the adviser - I mentioned I don't really watch the premium channels as they show a lot of repeats these days, and I was looking to drop the Entertainment Plus package and just keep the broadband. Then we went on to talk about some of the programmes like Impractical Jokers.

In the end, he spoke to his manager to try to close the open order - no luck. Before I ended the conversation, he said his manager has offered the Entertainment Plus package free for 12 months alongside the broadband. If I pay the line rental upfront, my total bill will be £10 a month. I'm landed :rotfl:

The price of the broadband will not change on 3rd July as the package was created in-line with the price increase. But if I decide to pay the line rental monthly and renew the contract before 3rd July, will the monthly line rental price still increase or will it stay at £17.99 a month because I renewed before 3rd July?

Edit: I could pay the line rental for 12 months in advance, but I suppose if BT increase their prices again after 3rd July, then I can still leave but won't get a refund of the line rental for the rest of the contract. I paid the line rental upfront for my current contract and then BT increased their prices (last year I think). I realised it would be pointless leaving as I won't get the remaining line rental refunded. Although this time I could pay the line rental monthly and then leave if BT increase their prices again without the risk of losing the rest of the line rental for the remainder of the contract as it's paid monthly.

The no charge Entertainment Plus package is £5 pm on the BT system and advisors need to approach a manager for any different .

I have BT Infinity 1 + Entertainment Plus + Advanced Line Rental 12 months .
Cost £12 pa less than the deal i was on for last year and gain Entertainment Plus .

Note the standard zero cost BT TV now has added 20 Premium channels ( no description available )
£3 per month for the extra channels .

I asked the adviser if the Entertainment Plus is free for 12 months and he mentioned his manager said yes - £0.00 will show on my bill for 12 months. Both the broadband and TV will be 12 month contracts.
  • I contacted BT on 15/06/2016 to accept a deal they offered me - £10 a month (excluding line rental) for Infinity 1 Unlimited). I paid the line rental upfront and the adviser said the line rental and new broadband contract will start on 17/06/2016. Happy days. My previous package was Entertainment Plus and Infinity 1 Unlimited for £26.65 a month (excluding line rental).

Saturday night I received a bill for 17/06/2016 - 16/07/2016 - I was charged £23.98 for Infinity 1 Unlimited and £10.65 for Entertainment Plus. I contacted BT yesterday, and the adviser said the broadband contract actually starts on 20/06/2016 - not what I was informed when I took the new contract out on 15/06/2016. He said I would be refunded from 20/06/2016 onwards for the TV and broadband.

I rang BT back and spoke to someone else who seemed more helpful. The adviser said the broadband contract and line rental did start on 17/06/2016 but the adviser I spoke to on 15/06/2016 put a cancellation date of 20/06/2016 for the TV. I was told we are supposed to give 30 days' notice to cancel a package, but he's put brought the cancellation date forward.

I'm confused about my contract start dates and the credit I can expect to receive on my next bill. I wish I had gone with another provider, but BT's 12 month contract swayed me back. Every time I contact BT I'm given different advice, and always left feeling confused.

I spoke to another adviser afterwards (I requested his name as he was rude, abrupt and threw me over the fence straight away when I asked for details about how to cancel within the 14 day period) and he said the rental and the broadband for the new contract starts tomorrow (20/06/2016) and it's the broadband and line rental for the old contract that ends on 17/06/2016. I've had the same rubbish customer service and incorrect information on my old contract. He was very rude and didn't understand my concern. I wish I hadn't bothered renewing. The lady I spoke to in the cancellations department said the line rental saver started on 17/06/2016 and the broadband contract will start on 20/06/2016, and the extra charges on my bill for 17/06/2016 - 16/06/2016 will be refunded for the TV and broadband from 20/06/2016 onwards. I was never told the broadband would start on the next working day after 17/06/2016. I was told the line rental saver and broadband would start on 17/06/2016.

I've had enough - same customer service issues with BT and the foreign call centres are awful. The adviser in the foreign call centre didn't care and he told me "to think about this logically and 2-3 days wouldn't make a difference." I'm sorry, but I don't understand BT's internal processes and when my bill is higher than what it should be, and the contract start date is apparently different, then I need to be informed why.

A manager will contact me either today or tomorrow to sort out why my contract didn't start on the date I was told it would start on. As far as I'm aware, it was a verbal contract over the phone.
  • I went out of contract at BT at the start of this month and rang yesterday to renegotiate before the 3 July price hike. I was paying £19.25/month, which would rise to £20 but their retention offer was merely £18. I told them I was looking at a Sky £10/month offer and asked what they could offer me to stay. My total package was actually BB plus £6 for BT Vision and £6 for the IT helpline (which I do use and is worth the price of not dealing with their useless Indian call centre) - the last two costs can't be cut so are still £12/month but they offered me a package of £20/month for BB plus those two - so I'm now paying only £8/month for my actual BB. WIN!
